Why an Airstream?
Dear Fellow Airstream Enthusiasts,
Why did you buy your Airstream? What was it that made you decide to get an Airstream instead of some other brand? My husband and I are in the market for an Airstream because of their beauty, the others just can't compare, but I have been wondering if everyone else feels the same way or if there are other reasons that propel people into this particular brand. I would love to hear your responses!

Heather,
Because we wanted a trailer which would last, we purchased our 1979 Safari in 2003. We also wanted to be a part of WBCCI and its history. We have met many wonderful people as a result and made many new friends. We obtained the 1954 Liner to preserve a unique trailer for all time.

Well, we won't have our Airstream for another year, but I think I know why my wife and I were drawn to them. We're very drawn to modern / contemporary designs, architecturally interesting but functional pieces, and clean lines. An Airstream is iconic; we knew and admired them before we even though about actually owning one. Needless to say, in our case, we're probably going to buy an International CCD or Ocean Breeze and then customize it a bit.
Check out our furniture. Personally, I see strong similarities to the Airstream form:

We bought our Airstream because it is a quality product that will last us a long time. We also decided on Airstream because it is really cool.

We started looking at Airstreams because I've seen and been impressed by their looks all my life.
We bought an Airstream because as we investigated them we came upon their secret. That is other Airstream owners. What a warm, helpfull and welcoming group!
We've had a blast camping and meeting other Streamers here in the Forum, The WBCCI folks and other Streamers we've met in campgrounds.
It's like having a family you enjoy hanging out with.

We did a lot of shopping and comparing quality. The SOBs just don't have it. We felt it well worth the money to get an Airstream. Also, you just can't beat the Airstream crowd! OK...maybe deep inside I am a bit snobbish!!

We looked at RV's for 2 years before we took the leap. We looked at everything from Class B's to Diesel Pushers, and when it came time to buy we went with Airstream for three main reasons. (the fourth one on the list became apparent only after the purchase)
1. Timeless design
2. Unsurpassed structural integrity
3. The Factory: We visited some factories where SOB's were built and it was frightening to watch the chaos. One visit to Jackson Center and you can see a well orchestrated factory flow.
4. Lastly, but probably the best reason in retrospect: The other Airstream owners and the community that they represent.

Bought an Airstream because I wanted a trailer that will last. But I have learned that Airstream has problems (read the corrosion thread) and must be stored indoors when not used... if you want it to last a lifetime.

Its a shame U live in Calif. and not here. U could see the Airstream being built,my wife and I have. Built with presicion and pride. All aluminum construction, best materials money can buy. ALL the SOB's(some other brand) are just 2x2 sticks and a little aluminium sheeting,no quailty at all. Not many SOB's are around like AS's from the 50's and 60's Hope that somewhat answers your Question

Had an SOB, just taint the same. Always wanted an AS because...just because. Yes, they can be demanding, and some say they are prone to leaking, but even an old mid seventies AS like mine stands out like a SOB can't. Then I found out that streamers come with a community! Anyone can go out and buy an SOB...ya got to have guts to jump into an old airstream There are some that would suggest you might have to be nuts unless you have the cash to have all the work done...maybe that too

PS Our cats made us do it...our dogs just watched
