Good evening,

Yard/garage sale over and done. Had auction company in today to pick up all of the furniture, kitchen stuff and nic nacs that were left, but they didn't want all of it, so tomorrow a charity is coming in to pick up the rest. Then we are hopefully going to take Bertha to Ocala for camping this weekend with my sister and her family for Bertha's maiden voyage. Not everything is done, but I really could use a weekend to do very little. Then when we get back Monday evening, we start staying at Jeanies, and I'll have 2 or 3 days to clean the house and turn in the keys. The first weekend in June, I will spend sitting at the pool. Yes, I will be using mega sunscreen.

Marie, I know you're glad the yard sale is a done deal. You deserve a whole month by the pool . . . with a cool drink and cabana boy at your beck and call!

We're in the new place, I'll let you know how it goes. Lots of stuff to find a new home for, it's unbellievably difficult to get anyone to pick up stuff for their thrift stores. We are still waiting for someone from Salvation Army, Island Coast Aids Network, St. Vincent DePaul, St. Andrews, Goodwill, Kidney Foundation, or anyone else, to come pick our donations up.
Anyway, here's a photo taken from the back door, when I said it was on a lake, I meant it was ON a lake:

Good evening,

I gotta tell you, I have never had so much trouble giving stuff away as I have had these past few days!!!!!!!!!!! I have called every thrift store and charity in Lee county and I am unbelieving the receptions I am getting. I finally told St Vincent diPaul that I did not want a handout, I was trying to donate stuff for thier thrift store. Most told me they could not come until the middle of June or 1st of July. But all would take it if I loaded the truck and brought it to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to the liquor store to get boxes and the kid asked me if he could help me with anything else. I told him yes, see if you can find someone to come get the free furniture and stuff from my house. Turned out he needed stuff and he came out and picked up some stuff in his car. He was very young and had just gotten a place and didn't know how he was going to fill it. We helped!!!! Now I need more of him.

Well, I'm off to bed, Good night all and may God Bless

Marie

It was an interesting sight watching the lad's Ford Escort sedan staggering away from our house with the coffee table on the roof, end tables, some lamps, VCR, and odds and ends stuffed in every orifice.

He was probably thrilled!!! You made his day I'm sure...your ears must be burning, because I'm sure he's talking about you to all his friends! IMO it's better to help out a young guy just starting out than an ungrateful thrift store.

The view from your new place is lovely...enjoy it 'til you're ready to hit the road!

Great view from the new place. Glad to hear the 'out with the old, in with the new' is moving right along for you. A fella just don't know how much he has until he has to move it out.

Thanks for the advise on bigeasy, we're planning our first trip next weekend. We'll probably go to a local park, probably not more than 25 or 30 miles. Maybe a Corps of Engineers park on Lake Lanier in north GA, or a state park. Hopefully this will give me a chance to sharpen my towing skills.

I look forward to more reading on your full time life.

Rusty, the COE parks don't have sewer hookups at every site, you will need to pick up a blue (the last one I bought really was grey)tank so you can use the shower and sinks without dumping on the ground. I found out about it the hard way when I first started camping at them, but the campground host was helpful enough to find a bucket to put under the drain outlet. The one I got last week was an 18 gallon tank, on 4 wheels, with a reinforced handle and fill/dump hose, for about $150 at Camping World.
Happy camping, and don't forget to:
1-take lots of pictures.
2-take along a pad and pencil to write down stuff you want to fix or change when you get home.

Yeaaaa!

Salvation army said they were coming tomorrow to pick stuff up. Terry and I will be in Tampa for ortho appointment and Friday to have the IVC filter removed, sooooo, hired my 14 year old nephew to come over and help move everything to the back porch. Told SA the stuff was on the back porch and told them 3 times we would not be there, but to take the stuff. Anyone wanta bet they don't take it? Connor worked his skinny little butt off for us so when I took him home, I gave him 20.00, he said he would have done it for 10.00, and I told him I was paying 20.00. Got a hug out of him. Cute kid!!

So, now just have to finish getting stuff over to new abode and cleaning the house and turning in the keys.. Have mercy I am tired!

I bet you are! Last time I moved I said 'never again'. It's hard work. At least you're moving to a lovely lakeside view. Hope the Salvation Army comes through.

BTW, I can relate to the young man in the Escort. When I was his age with barely a pot or pan, your offer of "stuff" would have been an absolute windfall. I can imagine his delight and thankfulness. You were his blessing that day.

We still have to transport my multiple huge toolboxes to storage, and some other odds and ends as well.

Thumbs up for what it's worth...

I use this site quite a bit and have had no trouble getting rid of stuff. Keeps things out of landfill. I'm glad your stuff went to a deserving young broke person! Weren't we all there at one time!

Good luck!

The shock of my life...

As most of you know, I had to go back to the orthopedic doctor for my 4 month checkup. Last time I was there the power was off, and they were unable to take any x rays, or much of anything else. The doctor I saw told me I could bear weight on my involved leg as tolerated, up to full weight bearing. I have been slowly (?) increasing the weight and reducing my dependence on my walking aids over the last several weeks, graduating from a walker to crutches, and finally to a cane. The last few days, I have been more carrying the cane in case I get into trouble, and just walking.
They took xrays today, and when the doctor's intern came in and looked at them, he kept looking over his shoulder at me, kind of nervously. I could see all the nuts, bolts, screws, chains, and other hardware that are now a part of my hip and pelvis in the x rays. I asked him if everything was all right, and he mumbled something about getting the doctor. He left rather hurriedly, and returned with the doc in tow. Now I am getting worried. The doctor asked me to stand up, and walk to the nurse's station across the hall. I did so, doing a smart about-face, and returning to the doctor. He asked me to repeat my walk, which I did, and when I returned, both of them were conferring under their breaths.
After he made me perform for him a few more tasks, he told me I was clear to resume my life, and congratulated me on such a rapid recovery. Oh, and come back in another two months for a checkup. I guess keeping me worried was payback for my bicycle question.

It really happened that way! They did tell him to stay off the roof of the airstream. They kept repeating 4 1/2 months, over and over as if they could not believe it was real. It is very seldom a patient makes such wonderful progress in such a short period of time. But like we explained, he heals fast.
Both doctors and the nurse were dutifully impressed.

Congrats Terry -- have you gotten any fireboss offers for the Everglades or Georgia border yet? Just - Say - No.

Marie, good for you too -- and you know it only too well. Continued progress to you both!

That's great news. Congrats, it's obviously because of the great care you received around the clock at home. Great job all the way around. This is good news.

Hey Terry,

While staying 'off the roof' as instructed, will you will also stay 'out from under too?

Great news.......just don't rush things too much and slow your progress!!!!
