What's a Google Spider?

I just saw that term listed 3 times under user names in "Who's Online".
Sorry, but inquiring minds want to know.

Spiders or web crawlers are part of the automated search engine tools. They go to a site, "crawl through it, and send back to the search engine the information that it finds so the saearch engine can index it. If you have run any Airstream specific searches on Google you will see that the forum comes up in most of the top 10-15 links. This is because the spiders are always searching the site and adding to the Google database.

Rog,

If you were checking out the 'who's online', doesn't that make you a type of spider too?

I just went to the 'who's online' to see what everybody is looking at, and one of the google spiders was looking at the google spider thread. Self reflection is a goodthing.
