Water temp uncontrolled

Hi! We have a 2020 globetrotter that’s new to us. Used it this weekend for the second time. The water heater works BUT the hot water gets soooo hot AND it comes out scalding even when the faucet is set to cold. It was even hot when we turned off the hot water connection under the sink. Suggestions before we take it in for service?

Well, you can't get hot water into the cold side so maybe faucet is faulty? The water heater does have a mixing valve, and it's job is to prevent scalding, so I would bet the valve is full of crud and not working right. Search airforms for 'mixing valve'

It’s happening at both faucets and the shower head. I’ll check the mixing valve as you mention. Thanks! Any tips for searching successfully? I search and get a bunch of seemingly unrelated things.

Curran,

Sorry don't know what's going one but maybe a diagram of the plumbing system can help you see the system and de-bug it. I took a quick look at a Globetrotter parts manual and page IV-12 shows a 25' FB.

Finally getting around to trying to fix this - in the summer months have just been getting by with the water heater off. I want to try and clean out the mixing valve as mentioned, but I can’t find any instructions. I know nothing about plumbing (maybe I shouldn’t attempt this). I know where the valve is. But, how do I ensure there’s no water in the valve before I remove it? Anyone have/can link me to any more detailed directions on this?

Most household systems have a replaceable cartridge in the mixing valve and I suspect the same for the airstream. If you get these conditions in a household system then it is usually the cartridge that gets clogged up with either debris from unfiltered water or from calcium from hard water (common in the west).

I would start by finding out if there is a replaceable cartridge in the mixer valve. Long term I would ensure your water entering the trailer is conditioned through filtering and softening.
