Was told to get a hobby

well the Wife told me i need a hobby i told her it will be on of three things

Old Car, old Motorcycle or Old Airstream.

It will more then likely be An Airstream as long as i can find one that

needs some work and the right price, Which more then likely means needs

a lot of work and hopefully cheaper.

Any suggestions on what trailer to start looking for or were one might be

located? I am pretty much open i think on the trailer except for some of

the bigger ones 25-27ft or larger that's because i will more then like be

handling most of the work myself and if i have to pull the shell off a 30ft

AS by myself might get a bit out of hand.

I am in SE Kansas so something in a day or two drive and tow able is what

I am on the hunt for

classifieds

There are lots of nice ones to look at on the Classifieds here. We found a really nice one that needed little work and was camp ready. We have only had to do some little things to it so far. And the price was right. Good luck on your hunt.
Sorry we did not get to see you on your trip to Cleveland. Hope to see you down the road. Keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome osolow. Size doesn't matter when doing a shell off. I pulled my 31 by myself. I can't steer you in any particular direction as to length. You need to ask yourself how much room do you want and what size of vehicle will you tow it with. Good luck on your quest.

yeah been searching eBay and craigslist and the classified on here. It doesnt really

need to camp ready i wouldn't mind haven something to work on this spring and

summer. I am On a tight budget so that narrows it down and i will be towing it with

my 09 Nissan Frontier which narrows it down even more but will see what i can find.

the trip to JC was good and Cleveland and Sandusky as well. We spent a day and a

half in Sandusky which was a pretty cool town and all the people i had interaction

with were all nice and help full Got pointed to a really nice Pub/bar and grill down on

water front street.

loudruff yeah would have loved to swung by and said HI and see your 1989 29' Excella

i had a 1990 29ft for a couple years kicking myself since i sold it May be next time.

I saw a 1960 Traveler just last week on a websight called "Tin Can Tourist"
It's in Marion, KS. If you are in SE Kansas, it can't be too far.
My parents lived in Ramona, KS, just down the road from there.

Find an old Airstream and pull it with a collector car. You will never run out of things to take up your time and money.

I have thought about the classic car and AS but if i do that it would look
like Clampetts cause i would i wouldn't have any money left to fix them booth up

Just a small warning about Craigslist and EBAY. If ya cant reach out and touch it in 2 or 3 hrs of travel. LEAVE IT. What is advertized as READY TO CAMP may be far from it.
GOOD LUCK with your search.

Get A Hobby

Proceed carefully! When the wife says "get a hobby", (it could have been just a momentary comment) the next thing you will hear is the complaining you are spending all your time and money on "that piece of junk". These projects take a lot of money and time, and without her support, they can become a real drag. Be sure you involve her in the initial plan, because you will need her help many times as the restore progresses.
Been there - done that!!
Good Luck on your search.
Dave

...keep in mind that it is MUCH less expensive overall to start off with one in better shape. The difference of $1000 savings up front in the purchase price will probably cost you twice that and then some later on down the road in your restoration cost. You are better off to get the best trailer you can to start with ~ the only advantage to not putting it into the purchase price is that you can spread out your money pain over a longer period of time.

Also, with vintage trailers, the longer trailers (>25'), usually cost less. "Shorties" (22' & less) are more desirable to many because of the fact they have more options with tow vehicles. There are also fewer of them...

Good luck in your continued search for a "hobby".

Shari
