Was Avion Mfg a spin-off of Airstream?

I'm new at this and a little confused about the tie between Avion & Airstream.

There was not a shred of tie-in, period~
Avion came on the scene many years after the fact.

The only question I have is:

How long have you had your Avion?
2 years ago, we camp'd next to a fellow Airstreamer who said he once had an Avion and, said,"I would still have one today if they were still being made".
I'm recalling he said that they were once made in MI?
Is that info, as you know it, correct?
