Veterans Fall In!

Today Memorial Day, sit in a quiet space a moment to remember the fallen, their lives cut short and their sacrifice and that of their families and loved ones.

US Army/WI Army NG 1988-2008, all of it as an MP.

First duty station was West Germany, when I left it was Germany. A close friend was actually in Berlin when they opened up, and was on the wall that night. My unit stayed in Germany for the first Gulf War. Spent time at Ft. Campbell Kentucky, Panama, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Egypt, and 15 months in lovely downtown Baghdad. The last four on that list were all when I was in the National Guard.

Retired as a SFC with just over 20 years in, and my unit preparing for a second deployment to Iraq.

5 days after retiring, my second son was born. That was a good week!

I should probably file a disability claim for all the stuff I ignored over all that time that has now caught up with me...

Go online and begin the process. You have up to a year to gather supporting documents, medical records, etc. Once you are granted a disability any benefits backdate to the initial date you started the process. And its much easier now doing it online. My first time applying took 18 months to get an answer. Now you should know within 90 days.

And it has been good to me also! While I can't say enough good things about the nurses at the Salem VAMC in Virginia, it was not like it is here at Hampton nor at the one in Richmond. Over the last 27 years here at the Salem VA I have had nothing but good this to say about my doctors. However, after my last doctor retired they can't seem to get a good all purpose doctor to stay or that is any good. Except to push more and more pills at me. But I'll get over it and so will the rest of the Vets who see him. We'll see how long this one lasts and whether or not he is a keeper.

South of Roanoke and East of Christiansburg Virginia in the boonies for sure.

Go to your State VA REP to file your Claim.

I filed my 'agent orange' amendment with the DAV, no results after 2 1/2 years. Paperwork lost in the transfer.
Re-filed with my local NYS rep...claim approved in 4 months.
Same with charities ...if you want to support the 7.3%, do it locally, avoid the admin loss.

Airstream N00b

New to the forum. Still working through buying process for my Airstream. Thought I'd drop by the vet's corner.

'93 - '99 USMC grunt reservist out of the Houston battalion.
'02 - '06 USAF communications officer, active duty stationed at Andrews AFB and Los Angles AFB. Cross trained to acquisitions officer before getting out.
'07 - '09 USAF Guard communications officer

Also spent several years as a DoD contractor. Did three years as an IT contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Currently a Wisconsin state employee working out of the state data center in Madison.

Welcome to the forums Joseph. That sounds like quite the varied military career.
I myself am retired (Jan 2002) Navy and am currently working in IT at a community college. You'll learn lots here, this is a great resource of information and knowledge. One tidbit of info, most of your questions you will have probably has been answered by someone on here. Thankfully there is a pretty good search engine (Google I think) on here
We recently completed our restoration of a 1959 Tradewind, and if it wasn't for the people on here and the vast knowledge and willingness to help their fellow Airstreamer, I'm not sure if I would have finished it.

Alright enough rambling, Again welcome aboard.

0311, USMC, '90-'96. What I refer to as a previous life.

Most people that meet me today, as I'm jovial, plump, bearded, no one initially guesses I'm an old grunt. Ah well...

Hi, I got shipped to Texas, from California, four days before Christmas. And we got what the military called ZERO WEEK.
