Useless stuff in your rig?

It's not quite camping season yet but just in case we get a few days of warmish weather I wanted to be ready - I figured cleaning out the cupboards in the camper and fluffing the pillows etc would be a good start. I went though every cabinet and drawer and found all sorts of incredibly cool but useless stuff.
  • Hand carved soapstone dice - not sure where these came from but they have never been used.
  • 3 carrot peelers - yup 3.
  • 1 can shoe polish. No one has used shoe polish at my house for 20 years - not sure why we would start now..
  • Map of NY City. Not towing there - ever... (and besides it should be in the tow rig)
  • 6 long handled lighters for oven. 4 don't seem to work...
  • Bubble wrap
  • Bundt pan - avocado green. Uni-tasker, ugly and not mine; did not contain any cake, even.
  • Hand knit wool sweater - size xxs. Fits no one at my house.
  • Postal scale... ermm??
  • Folding Flat panel TV/dvd player - bought this back in 2005 looked cool and like a good camper thing. NEVER used it - not even once.

When was the last time you cleaned out cabinets? Do you have never used items?

When we cleaned out Bertha, I found the name tag from one of the original owners. I found it when we first got the trailer, then put it away, and forgot about it.
I also found some unused shot glasses and pilsner glasses, as well as some homemade mason jar wine glasses.

We do a visual inventory before our annual trip. If we haven't used it for a year, out it goes.

Jar of unidentified stuff that had fallen over and leaked all over bottom of cabinet. Wife thinks it probably was a jar of clothes washing detergent put in smaller jar to save space.

Bottle of dish washing detergent in original container with top half of contents congealed into unidentifiable mass that would not squeeze out of container. Thought about turning this over to EPA, but decided landfill could deal with it.

I'd keep the DVD player for trouble shooting video cables. If it has a video input.

We don't have useless stuff in the rig. Stuff we have never used and never will use, yes. Stuff we need and is no where to be found, even if it is on the coach, yes. Stuff we use and never should have used, yes. Stuff the border guard wants to discuss, but is not on the list, yes. Stuff we could have used, but did not know we had on the coach, yes. But never any USELESS stuff. Well, not much anyway. Great thread. Pat

A couple of straws could replace all the bar ware... insert directly into bottle and best of all no glasses to wash after use

Mmm.... A bottle of Bacardi and a straw... What's the worst that could happen?

I admire your sense of efficiency, but I'm curious as to how this works for mixed drinks for two, like martinis. Then how to manage the olives?

An olive is to a martini what a cherry is to a sundae. It's just not the same without it.

As for the straws, one regular in the gin, one very small (think coffee stir stick) in the vermouth. Set the olive jar on the table.

Martinis: one is not enough and two is too many

stuff

First, how can you say it is almost time to travel. Come down south. We camp all winter and ease up in the summer unless heading north.

Shot glasses are for sharing that special bottle with friends.
Beer glasses are for beer, of course.
The mason jar wine glasses can go.

I did just happen to clean, well, go through, 2 cabinets today. Only 4 tablecloths from last rally and a "Virginia is for Lovers" bumper sticker came out. More cabinets to go....

Better yet, do as I did once in Calgary during the Stampede. Laid back in a bankers chair and had them pour the drink in my mouth straight from the bottles. Notice I said once! 😂🤠🤕🤢
