Trailer Life Features Airstream/Suburban

The latest issue of Trailer Life features a 2500 Suburban and a 28W Airstream Safari in their test review this month.
The thing that struck me most is their indictment of quadrasteer not being available in the 8.1 liter engine option due to supposed weaknesses in the quad system, and also the anemic performance of the Suburban in towing the 28 saying that, as this one was equipped, it would be much more suited for pulling a 25ft at most. They also ctitisized GM for failing to include towing mirrors into the towing package of a receiver hitch and heavy duty tranny cooler.
The primary critisism of the Airstream was quality of interior design and construction, and the small 35 gal fresh water capacity.
All in all in interesting read.
Just confirms to me though that if you are 28 or larger, diesel is the way to go when selecting a tow vehicle.

2500 Suburban

Would be happy to chat with any one who would like to know more about a 2500 Suburban with Quadrasteer, trailer mirrors and a 4.10 rear end. I ordered mine specifically to pull our 27 foot Overlander. Our 4x4 2500 is rated for a max trailer of 9300# with a GCWR of 16,000 lbs.
Please feel free to ask any questions, but from not reading the article it appears that the reviewer did not do his home work. I think that 325 hp and 365 of torque from the 6000 vortex is plenty. The 8100 vortex has a max trailer of 12,000 and a gcwr of 19,000.
As far as gas vs diesel , I think that the one you are driving is the right one for you ...
abe
ps 4.10 rear end is a $50 factory option
the retractable camper mirrors $175.
second row captain's chairs $490.
block heater $35. (poor man's garage)
