Wink The perfect WBCCI Rally

Now I have done it. I accepted a position in my unit as 1st VP. and now have to plan the"perfect" rally. I am stumped so I thought I would ask my friends what they like to do at rallies.

So please tell me what you liked at rallies you attended or what you would like to do at a future one that would make you want to attend. Go ahead and post the good, great and outlandish ideas. I declare this a NO scorn zone!!

Ideas

In my last club, we always had a trailer walk. We did this in one of two ways at different rallys:

1. Everyone starts out together and stops at any trailer with the porch light on. The owner is part of the group and becomes host for the moment.

or

2. Brightly colored window cards are passed out at registration. At any time that visitors would be welcome, put the card in a window. Take it out when not there or otherwise engaged.

Most all of us have some little thing that the group would be interested in, either inside or outside the trailer, from a simple latch to a major rework. or we may have a problem that the visitors may be able to help with.

Wink Perfect Rally

Being in New England where we not only have a limited number of rallies because of the weather, we also have a an older group of folks that seemed to have "been there and done that".
The last time out, we had a "pot luck supper". We haven't done this in a long time; it seemed to be fun for everyone. It is important that attendees be screened for their selections and some input from the host(ess) be there. I have heard of some real horror shows where some folks only brought a small amount of a mediocre dish. That's not fair to the others that went all out.
On another occasion we held a pound auction. Wrap up purchases that weigh about a pound (be sure every knows that you don't spend more than $10). You can even disguise the container it's wrapped in. If you have a really funny guy or lady that would even add to the auction. All money collected at the pound aution is donated to the Cents for Sense...WBCCI International.

The Perfect WBCCI Rally

Greetings Brett!

This rally idea crosses my mind every time I pass the drive in movie theater between Davenport, Iowa and Makqoetta, Iowa - - actually mid-way between Davenport, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa. That idea is a weekend rally during the theater's pre-season or post-season dates - - trailers all parked on the perimeter half-wagon wheel style - - featuring old travel related movies at night such as Lucy and Desi Arnaz in the Long, Long, Trailer.

This is an idea that may not be possible much longer. One of my favorite drive in theaters between Marion, Illinois and Carterville, Illinois closed and will become part of a regional airport in the next few years.

It may be more Vintage oriented, but everyone seems to enjoy the old travel related movies. An the drive in movie theater could be quite a nostalgia trip for most Airstream owners as well.

Something that we did during our Wagon Wheels pre-rally in South Dakota was a home-made ice cream/fruit sorbet social one evening. Rounding up the old-fashioned hand-cranked ice cream makers may be the most difficult step, but I do think the participants enjoyed the activity - - and it was a new treat for the younger generation in attendance.

The perfect WBCCI Rally

I don't know if this link will help, but it lists a number of drive in movie theaters organized by state:

http://directory.google.com/Top/Arts...United_States/

I was looking through some of my favorite links and found this site:

http://www.driveinmovie.com/mainmenu.htm

I ran across this site as I was searching some old travel notes:

http://www.drive-ins.com/

This is another link that I have used in the past to locate theaters during my travels:

http://www.workcompusa.com/drive.htm
