It is hard to tell from pictures but I bet home made. Look at the difference in doors, windows, and metal color. Is that a block on the roof?

That trailer is featured on "The Surreal Gourmet" show on the Food TV network. Not sure of the days and times, but check their website, (foodtv.com). There is an Airstream converted to a "kitchen trailer" for sale at rvtraderonline.com for $6000. I've often wondered why AS never built a fifth wheel trailer, but after seeing those pictures, I don't think it would sell.

You know if you look closely, it looks like the front part is an older Bambi attached to a 31 footer.

AS did experiment with 5th wheels in 1989. Here's a thread which discusses them and has some pics but they don't look anything like the ones smily posted.

Smiley, the main part of that frankenstream is a 32 footer from, I think, the late 70's. The raised forward part is from a much earlier unit (note the cut down door with the inset panel).
Probably early 60's, but it is hard to tell.

I cannot imagine how enough framing could be built within the sheetwork to carry the load.

I used to have a Scamp 5th-wheel. Actually, a gooseneck, regardless of what Scamp calls it.

It may not have been the prettiest thing around, but the build quality was a lot better than my A/S, much as I hate to say it. I had some design quibbles with the Scamp, but the construction was letter perfect.

I have seen kits where you can convert a bumper pull into a fifth wheel, or more appropriately, a gooseneck as Pahaska called it.
That is probably what this has under the skin, unless the fella who built it is a retired Boeing engineer?

Oddly enough, the Scamp gooseneck was sort of a hybrid in itself. They took the bottom half shell of their 16 footer and designed a new 19' top shell and a new frame.

I had the deluxe model with solid oak cabinets built and installed by an independent cabinet shop across the road from their factory. Really high quality stuff. I watched them build an interior.

If Scamp had a slightly larger model, I would probably have one now. The major weakness was the 6 1/2' width which made the loft bed too short and the interior pretty cramped. A foot wider and two feet longer and it would be a real winner to use.

It towed like a dream, but was so short coupled that it was a horror to back.

BTW: I designed the layout of the deluxe Scamp over the phone and by mail with the cabinet shop owner. Scamp liked it so much that it is a standard interior now.

I know thenewkid64 has steel panels on his Argosy mh around the headlights and below the side windows. Mine are aluminum. As there are more members now than when this was discussed it might be interesting to see what was the metal of choice at Airstream.

I'd bet another trailer conversion. Look at the rear tire/wheel well opening. Good job, makes me wonder where some of these guys get the glass and front end metal unless it is all hand made.
