I did something similar when I went from F-150 to F-250 because keeping the standard wheelbase was important to me (park my F-250 inside my garage). Rather than go all the way to the original standard 2-door cab, I went with the "super-cab", it has room behind the front row for important cargo or small kids, but I did have to accept less than an 8 ft bed to keep the wheelbase and overall length where I wanted it. That's actually an improvement, because I went from a 5.5ft bed up to a 6.75ft bed. It still fits in my garage, is reasonably maneuverable in parking lots and similar, and I have good flexibility with the interior space available to me. I have to say over the years our traveling style has evolved such that we are very dependent on the extra space behind the driver/passenger, for things like small coolers with water, pop, etc, food, medicine, anything you absolutely want to keep safe and dry. I would suggest you at least look at that option. You will have a hard time finding them on any dealer lot, even before the current chip shortage, the "super-cab" is a rare item, and I had to special order mine, but see if you can find one to sit in and get a sense of the cab space in whatever brand you like. Maybe a CarMax might be a place you could find something used to evaluate if no dealers near you have anything ...
