"Snap Hangers by Airstream"
Anybody ever seen these? Snap on hangers, apparently an exclusive item to the Wally Byam catalog back in the 1960s.
They're so clever ~ it's a simple wire hanger with an extra nub that lets you snap them onto the bar so they can't hop off on bumpy roads. We own a half dozen, which came with our '62 GlobeTrotter... but would love to find another dozen or so. I've found no references to them online, so far.

I have some plastic hangers that snap securely onto a clothes rod, but not metal ones, and they're certainly not Airstream originals. But if all you want is hangers that won't jump off the clothes rod, these will do…

I have another variety of plastic RV hangar I found on eBay. Don't remember the brand, and the trailer is in storage so no pics available. They work great.

Y'all are not carrying enough clothes if the hangers jump off the rod in travel.
I have never had that problem.
My Interstate has a sort of double rod that pulls out, and is narrow enough top to bottom that hangers coming off in normal travel would be nearly impossible.

Thx for the modern suggestions, they certainly seem to be functionally equivalent.

Is this a problem? I don't recall ever having a hanger come off the closet rod.

Hanger jumping off is a result of unbalanced running gear and over-hitching.

Or the result of really bad Louisiana highways, where the only way to dodge the potholes is to hit the bumps, and vice versa.

No, probably not a problem for most.
They just have a nice slim profile, they're made from thick wire, and the added function of being able to push them onto the rod is cool, and theoretically allows you to mount the rod closer to the ceiling because you're not living the hanger over and down onto the rod.
They're just a neat trailer accessory that serves as another reminder that you're on the road, and not in a house.

Protagonist, what is your experience with these hangers? Is there a trick to getting the things off the rod? The reviewers didn't like them, but no-one mentioned using them in an RV. The price is certainly right, if I can use some of them at home.

The undulations of Louisiana asphalt were our first (& only) experience with flying hangers. My solution for this recurring route was two small D-rings mounted at the rod ends and a hooked bungee cord stretched between the rings. Certainly cheap, highly successful, and bungee removal at the campsite allows easy use of any hanger type.

"found" solution
Several years ago in someones trash (yes, I have been known to "dumpster dive" I found a bunch of old hotel hangars. They have a metal ring that clips over the pole with a tab/slot hanging down. The hangars themselves are nice heavy wood (must have been a "good" hotel) with a metal pin with a large head that hooks into the bracket.
The hangars do not jump off of the rod but they lift off easily when you need to remove them.
I know this is not what you were looking for but I thought I would add my solution/ 2 cents worth.

Pretty simple them on or off the rod. Just press the spring clip far enough in, and it will slip off like a regular hanger.
But I'll probably switch to the ones AWCHIEF uses, because they're even simpler.

I know these well ~ they're another great design, I agree. My only complaint about those is the bit of concentration it requires to get the little ball in the slot, wheres these Airstream hangers can be operated practically without looking.
Thanks for the idea though!

I Pur. a dozen or more airstream hangers when they first came out, they are great and no I will not part with any of them. We also use some heavy plastic hangers if not enough airstream hangers for every thing.

Wow! You're referring to the 60s metal ones I pictured in the first post?
That's nifty. Whether or not hangers fall off, I love these things. They're a beautiful little design.
Perhaps I'll reproduce them, since it seems so few people have seen them.

Hi, not necessarily. I don't have either of those problems, but I can't stop bumps in the road. Looking for new coat hangers.
