Safaris from 1969 on, I believe, were the smallest dual axle Airstreams that were in regular production. 23 ft. Some Safaris were built with single axles, though, well into the 70's.
I have seen older small trailers with dual axles in pictures, but I believe they were special models, special ordered and made for difficult caravans.

According to information on the Airstream Company Website, the smallest current Airstream with tandem axles is the 22' Safari.

Upon further looking, there is also a tandem axle 22' International.

They are no longer making the 22' Safari or International...

Both have been dropped from the line up...

Boy G, Airstream sure needs to pay some attention to their website unless they think that this "internet thing" is just some passing fad that they don't need to pay much attention to.

They are supposed to have the new site up and running around Aug 10th

Older short tandems ...

Hi Craftsman:

The shortest older tandem axle Airstream trailers are:

1. The 1958 & 1959 22' World Traveler (7 built), and
2. The ~ 1989-91 (unsure of the production dates) 22' Excella II

I don't know anything about newer trailers after the 1960s, so the late 80's Excella II was a real stretch for me. But they are a cool litlle trailer!

I think its interesting that the '58-'59 period is also when the long single axle trailers were built, the 26' overlanders.

I have a new 2007 25' Classic but I'm looking for a vintage project. Something smaller than the 25' and with twin axles. The sovereigns pictured are very nice but to close in size to the 25'. I may just have to go with a smaller single axle vintage unit. Thanks for the replies and the photos.
