Simple solution for bath mirror “headache”

Like others looking for a solution to the overhead bath mirror not being restrained in the up position, I came up with an idea after trying the more intricate gas strut option, and finding it too involved. I didn’t want “mistake screw holes” seen from trying to find the successful location for both strut ends. Too much geometry with this cabinet.

So, I bought a 3” long Surface Bolt, Ace #5429816, satin nickel, $9. The gap between side wall and edge of mirror is about ˝”-⅝”, wider than the surface bolt is thick, so I needed a spacer between the side wall and surface bolt to securly catch more of the mirror. I had a piece of 1”x1/4” aluminum bar, and I cut it to 3” long, and drilled it to match the surface bolt holes. I wanted a little more of a spacer, so I added a split lock washer (because it is thicker than a normal washer) between the alum bar piece and surface bolt, using the screws. Then just decide where on the side wall you want to mount it. Tighten the two screws, and done - lift mirror left hand, slide bolt right hand.
