Our is a 68 Ambassador and the sales catalog I have for 1968 says 28ft. As I understand, it's whatever sounded better in the sales & marketing department. Our 81 Excella says it's 27ft but both are exactly the same length, go figure.

Your foot is safe.

Airstream added one foot to each model of the trailers, starting with the 1969 models.

So indeed a 68 Ambassador is 28 feet long and the 69 model is 29 feet long.

Measure the awning rail. Yours is 18 feet long and the rail on a 69 would be 19 feet. Add ten feet to those dimensions, for the overall length of the trailer.

I think it depends on the year what length they called it.. Some years were even numbers some odd.
My 69 Ambassador is called a 29 although I never actually put a ruler to it..
Both my 61 tradewind (24) and 64 overlander (26) are even numbered. In 69 they were 25 and 27 feet respectively.
I suspect the years prior to 69 were all even numbered lengths
