Another proud American!

Fortunate to be born in the U.S.A. Proud to have served in the United States Army as a Pershing Nuclear Missile Crewmember. I thank my lucky stars that we never had to launch in anger, but was prepared to do so if ordered. Just one of the Cold War Veterans.

So many in this new generation need to know how close we really were on many occasions to an all out global crisis.

It’s thanks to God and you and your fellow brothers in arms that we are able to live free. In this exceptional land.

Thank you!

Sounds like no one has been following the news these past 18 months. Divided, hatefull and deminished on the world stage. As citizens, to not demand more from our "leaders", is to bee the problem. But then again it's "great" for us old white folks.
I didn't serve in the Marines to support what this country has become. I'm ashamed.

First off I will say thanks for your service, but need to follow with - that I would appreciate you keeping your misguided politics to yourself, especially here in the forums.

Agree Oliverivets, blessed to be a citizen of this great country. Lets hope we can keep making it better.

Before this whole topic gets closed - first - thank you so much for your service. I'm sorry you feel ashamed. Is it possible to feel proud of a country and its higher ideals while being ashamed of some of its leaders and rhetoric that may feel very different than what you believed you were fighting for?

I'm never ashamed of America. Our history has some bright and shining moments and some awful passages as well. If we're true to who we really are, if we live up to our highest ideals - we'll be that beacon on the hill.

Your service toward that goal means an awful lot. You have nothing to be ashamed about.

Thank you all who served.

Proud to be a Canadian

Since we're boasting about our countries, I'm very thankful that I have the privilege to have been born and to live in Canada!

Let's hear from others on the forums who live outside of the USA.

What is a shame is you feel this way, in particular, because you never understood the difference between the country and the government. We've always had our share of "characters" running things, on all sides of the political spectrum.

The country is the people who run it every day: the truck drivers, the teachers, the accountants, the gas station attendants. It's not the people who congregate in "the swamp"--they're the mere placeholders of government jobs, and like anyone, they're bound to screw up and act like buffoons. Read a history book; this is nothing new.

And by the way, you don't know anyone's age or race, so don't presume it's only "old white folks" posting here.

Thank you for your service to our country. The fact that you served and your willingness to express your opinion openly and honestly shows that you are a "true patriot". No one has the right to tell you or anyone else how they should or shouldn't feel. I too am very disappointed in our current state of affairs. I guess I have higher expectations, especially of our "leadership". The bar must be set quite low for many.

If I didn't have respect for the requested etiquette re politics here in this forum, I would enjoy responding to this hogwash.

In a completely a-political fashion - may I just say I too am very proud to be an American. I see many of you posting here are veterans and I'm so deeply grateful and indebted to you for your service - and yet, I wish such thanks never had to be offered. I'll accept your criticism that it's naive to hope for such things. But I'm equally proud to be a citizen of this Pale Blue Dot...and I wonder - if everyone felt the same way - how wonderful would it be to never award another Gold Star....

As Frank Sinatra said, "If you don't know the guy on the other side of the world, love him anyway because he's just like you. He has the same dreams, the same hopes and fears. It's one world, pal. We're all neighbors."

And yeah - I'm still very proud to be an American and I thank you deeply for your service. Here's to Frank, and Carl Sagan, and all you aluminitus infected friends.

Why should all the great Americans I've met over the years be tarnished by the actions of the .000001%, wether it be a crazy killer, a greedy CEO, a wack job commentator, a crooked cop or politician?

For the most part, on all political, ethnic, financial or sexual divides, Americans are good people, that would actually get along with each other if the .000001% stayed the HE double hockey sticks out of the way.

FYI Canada surpassed the US for the highest medium income in the middle class, higher life expectancy, more accessable health care, stable political system, stable fiancial system........I'll stop now; you get the point. I love my country of Canada!

Cheers

And do keep in mind that "Aluminiumitis", or "Airstream Disease" is not limited solely to the United States of America--it respects no borders, does not discriminate in any manner, and actually infects both humans, and their pets (at least MY doggies have it).

Some of the interesting articles and pictures on this forum have come from members in Canada, Germany, The UK, and other places...do consider that members may not all be "Americans"...
