I'm 59 now, didn't serve, voted every chance I had. My parents lived on a street where the families on either side and across the street were our family's great friends. I can't remember once my folks talking politics with our neighbors.

I'm not my father but how could I be? He grew up in the Depression, worked a family store when he was 10, saw his parents lose the store, was sent to a relocation camp, volunteered for the US Army and fought in Korea. Me? I grew up playing golf, tennis, skiing, fishing, and enjoying the concept of leisure. I respected what my parents went through but I couldn't live the same life - my America was different from their America. And it's set up to be that way - it's not a dictatorship or aristocracy. I'm different because America is different. There are those that don't want it to change but that's folly.

Still, the basic tenants of what makes us Americans are still there - I see it on the road everywhere I go. Oh sure, there are new things that crop up, things that are new to me...but the basic characteristics are there. When I meet people, some here on the forum, we play that dance, feel each other out, and with just a few words I can tell on some things where we stand...and that's fine with me - I don't have to go further. I can discuss anything with anybody if he or she wishes, but like my parents I don't force it. I have one vote and I'll use it. I listen to a few select friends who are smarter than I, and I read a lot...on both sides. But I'm here to tell you, the Road is a fine place. America is full of roads and full of different folks. Some of us want things to be better and voice that concern, others feel things were better before. We all talk but we should listen too.

Man, I love our Airstream.

You can keep Justin, but can we take Selena Gomez instead?

The problem with this line of thought is what troubles your leadership right now. They only want to hear want they want to hear, not differing or dissenting opinions. If you only read a thread full of posts that claim that America is the greatest country in the world, you will come to the conclusion, however wrong, that America is the greatest country in the world.

I have proof, it use to be.

I, probably like many on this Forum, belong to multi forums and there always seems to be a thread like this. why must be turn a recreational thread into a political discussion. I know I don't have to read it however why can't we keep this forum about Airstreams and camping?

One thing our family has found traveling this country (with our AS in tow), people are pretty much the same every where you go, good, friendly and kind. Every little region of the country has their own uniqueness, but there is more that Unites us, than divides us. It truly is a shame that more people can't see the common threads that bind this country together.

God Bless America.

MOD HAT: ON.

This thread has predictably gone where such political threads do, to intractable extremes that are unrelated to Airstreaming, camping, tires or even tow vehicles.

Please remember that there are forums for politics and forums for camping, and AIRForums isn't intended to be a forum for politics.
