So glad you are back, Protagonist, as you have been missed.

Glad to hear that you are back with improved health. As you can see by the number concerned that you were greatly missed.

Protag, Like your new avatar picture. What's that saying...the clothes makes the man. I always encourage the chance at romance. One day we'll find the one. I'm sure we could talk at a campfire, comparing stories till sunrise. Glad your back with the family. Gregg. Almost forgot, you do know about the total solar eclipse on Monday August 21 around 2:30 pm. Get your rig ready...not to be missed!

This comment made me realize that there is not yet a dedicated dating service for engineers and hard science professionals. You can date a farmer, you can date a Jew, you can date a liberal... there are many demographically-targeted specialty websites out there. But none for engineers that I know of.
I have numerous professional colleagues who tell the same story. One of these great catches keeps telling me, "I just can't find a woman who understands the engineering mind." Not only do his relationships end, the ones I've seen from a distance have ended badly. But there's nothing wrong the the guy that I can detect. No reason for this to keep happening except lack of compatibility in world views from the outset.
I'm the opposite. I can't understand the NON-engineering mind. A decade ago, I met my mechanical engineer husband on Plenty of Fish, but that was a pure numbers game (as my husband describes it). It was a fluke of small numbers that we managed to connect at all in that vast ocean-sized dumping ground of online dating nonsense. I don't know what that site looks like today, but back then, one could probably screen by level of education but it was extremely rudimentary. It wasn't like I could sort out the engineers for closer inspection.
Anyway, it's too bad that people of our mindset don't have better options, is my point.

Hitting the nail on the head!
From an engineers point of view:
Dont forget to calculate the radius of the hammer's arc, the mass of the head, the force of the stroke. Also the mass and dimensions of the nail, and the density of the material the nail is to be driven into!
Or do I digress?

You digress. Percussive maintenance is strictly rule of thumb, no calculations required.

No, percussive maintenance a rule of, "if it doesn't work, hit it harder."
As seen in the original Star Wars, when Han Solo fixes the hyperdrive by smacking it a good one…

And I maintain if your thumb doesn't hurt, hit it harder.

You do it your way, I'll do it mine. And my thumb works well enough without hitting it…

Ok, relative to the above posts...take off your engineering hat and put on your dry humor hat, and re-read.

My dry humor hat IS my engineering hat, these days. I got the joke, thanks.
I have missed this back-and-forth while I was gone from the Forums. My unlamented girlfriend really didn't understand sarcasm:

Btw, nice to see you back! My wife still doesn't get me.....but we're only 36 years in. There's always hope.

hmmm... so I'm trying to figure out if being an engineer is a good thing or not????
interestingly, as I spent a ton of time with operators and doing plant operations, I spent many years convincing my operator friends that i was NOT an engineer......
they never believed me.....
so whats so bad about being an engineer..... I married a business woman, and it seems to be working out..... met the old fashion way, through a friend...
