Our new (not so) baby hits the road.

Got our new 34-footer January 4th. We opted for the Ultraleather lounge and the cocoa color scheme and all options except for electric jacks. Had a Hensley Arrow Hitch installed. This is our 4th new Airstream in the last 2 years—and our best! We had numerous problems with our 16’ Bambi, 22’ and 28’ CCDs, but not this one. Our 34 is almost flawless. The only thing we’ve been able to find wrong with this one is part of a plastic door guide clip is missing. The dealer will send a new one. The fit and finish is remarkable and everything works and looks just right. The step up from the International to the Classic Limited is a big one–very livable and comfortable. We feel a sense of legacy with the 34’ Classic that we haven’t previously experienced. We’re in South Texas now and will be headed to Long Beach, Washington by March 1st. We’ll be on the road for several more months, then maybe spend a couple of months in our house without wheels before setting out for a full year. Keep you posted. It is indeed a beautiful unit. I'm stymied, however, with the cost of the others, and the huge jump in cost from a Bambi to this in two years, why would you have gambled and spent so much on this one, after having the poor quality on the other two? You are a brave man or a fine poker player, I'll bet!

Once we got the Airstream bug, we decided to spend a lot of time on the road. Have seen the lack of quality in the SOBs and would never EVER touch or own one. Even though we had some problems with the CCDs, they were minor especially with what we hear around the campgrounds about what people experience with other brands. Had no hesitation about the cost of the 34 and are very happy with the experience.

What's up in Long Beach? Just visiting?

I did some work with the Coast Guard's Heavy Weather Coxswain school over in Cape Disappointment once. We stayed in a hotel in Long Beach. Great little town. Incredible beach.

We visited Long Beach on a trip up the west coast last spring and decided it would be a nice place to spend a month or two. Nice town and a great beach - not to mention the weather. We work while on the road - as long as we have cell service and internet, we are in business. Are really enjoying life on the road!!

I wish my 390 XL had as good workmanship as you say your 34' has, any enjoy your unit. I love to see Airstream owners excited about their units.

Hi Pete :

You have the same trailer that we will be buying in about another 18mos.

Could you pls let me know what you are using as a towing vehicle.

I'd also be very interested in how you feel towing it & parking it when compared to your former 28.

We have a Safari 25 right now & are looking forward to the move up to the 34, however, we are a bit concerned about the length & how difficult that the 34 will be to wiggle into "back in" sites & handle turning in close quarters.

We use a Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel to tow - with no problem. It tows like a dream and you will be surprised at what an extra axle does to simplify "wiggling" into a back in spot. Just have to turn wide, as they say.

We love the difference in comfort and finish out in the classic. It is comfortable and very functional, not to mention beautiful. Get lots of looks and comments everywhere.
