Don't know if any of you are/were, sons/daughters "dirt" farmers...but I have a question about "gumbo" ?
In KS, certain places had some soil that was known to be "gumbo"....got wet was pliable....then it dried out was out like what here is called "kalieche"...
You can make bricks out of this stuff (kalieche).
Any of you experienced "gumbo"?

All I know is stay off when wet and 4x4 will just get you stuck further from home. Fills the fender wells and then you are done. Oh Yea, gravel just sinks into it and fence post tamping requires addition of rock.

I guess it is soil without any sand or plant matter that keeps it from either being loose/deep (which you experienced) or normal....whatever that is. ?
It was awful. Kalieche is almost the same.
