NY/CT Area Parking Needed for Airstream
My 30' Airstream needs a safe place to park until Summer, since my town
(thanks to the neighbors) have given me 30 days notice! I'm in the
Hudson Valley, 60 miles North of NYC and any ideas would be greatly appreciated since time is running out and my on-going restoration (thanks to you guys) is only half done.

Not-so-Pleasantville?
Not sure how restrictive ordinance is, or what limits are that are resolved by summer, but here is list of ideas for local parking options...
1. Traditional RV or Storage lot? (Many PS Storage places park RV's in back..)
2. Check RV Dealers in areas for suggestions, or chance to pay to park on their back lot until spring shipments from their manufacturers come in
3. Check neighborhood for a neighbor with fenced side yard/non-visible storage and try to make deal for off street/out of driveway parking (we worked this for 4 years with divorcee at work who bought house with fenced and gated boat storage, had no boat and needed $$..)
4. Try posting notice at work or local community bulletin boards
5. Any large boat storage places near water or river?
6. Look for neighbor with legal RV, see if they have room for comanion in legal spot
Good Luck!

Not so Pleasantville... Thanks John, Its very frustrating. Now my kids are all excited to go camping this Summer and if I cannot find a place in the next 2 weeks, I will be forced to sell at a big loss. Anyone else have any ideas?????

Call around to a few dealerships in your area. See if they offer storage or know of a place that does. Typically U-Store type places offer up spaces for RVs and Boats.
Also - unless you are in voilation of your neighborhood association rules, it's typically not a problem to store a trailer on your property as long as it's meeting the town ordinances. (Ask me how I know this )
Sometimes, just moving it behind the house, or shielding it with a fence is enough. If your mid-restoration this would be a far better solution.

Thanks Steven... How do you know? They said I need to move it in 30 days. I did find one RV dealer that will charge $3.50 per foot per month and they can also do some repairs, so I may go with that solution. Since I'm replacing sections of the floor, I now will need to get that done before she leaves home! I may have to buy a farm now so I can park my AS!

I know this is too vague to be much help, but I recall reading that the Good Sam Club has a packet of materials that has helped RV owners dispute so-called violations.

http://www.goodsamclub.com/parkRights/
Claims it's members only, but you can get close, including e-mail addresses for their parking regulation experts... Also worth a try..

Thanks John, are you a member of Good Sam Club? Based on all the benefits, it sounds like a good idea in general to join .

Yes, I am a chronic "Joiner"... Member of KOA, Good Sam, WBCCI, AOPA, EAA, Classic Japanese MC Club, GWRRA, AMA, Int'l Comanche Society plus a half dozen others I can't remember.. Perhaps it's fact that all the cards make my wallet feel fatter than it really is...
Their benefits involve trip planning, emergency road service for RV's, magazine of limited value, discounts on RV park stays and a pretty good RV Park directory which lives under co-pilot seat in Suburban... Since we stay at commercial (rather than state/federal) parks most often, their book is the definitive source when it's time to stop, and members get heavily discounted price...

Thanks for the ideas. I'm just so suprised that there are not more options out there in Metro NY area. I guess real estate is just so damm expensive that they would have to charge an arm and a leg! I may build a elevated Airstream storage center in my retirement!

Thanks for the offer, but I would rather be closer to home base! I have a few leads down near me - lets hope something happens soon. After all this rain today, I now need to go inside the AS and check for leaks!

Joining some of these may be the answer for insurance as well. i understand that you can save on that as well. Does anyone have any recent data on the membership benefits as far as insurance goes?
