Nostalgia

Some kind soul in a previous post mentioned nostalgia which inspired me to post photos of my husband Pete's maternal grandparents and their Airstream journeys to my photo page.

We've only come across these few photos thus far, but what a hoot! We were lamenting last night on what good condition their dream is in. If only they would have put her away and saved for us to take out someday. Now that we've attained our own dream, I understand it would be next to impossible to park the Airstream for posterity sake when it's meant to seek adventure. So here's to our memories....

How true, but what wonderful adventures it looks like they had. Thanks for posting the awesome photos.

Greetings Carmen!

That photo is fantastic.

You have inspired me to go on a scavenger hunt when I am home for Thanksgiving to try and find the photos of my trailer dating back to when it was nearly new and owned by dear friends of the family. I can remember photos of it parked at the guest cottage on the family farm with its Mercury Monterey tow vehicle in the foreground circa 1964-66.

Greetings Carmen!

I spent many of my free moments during my recent winter vacation looking for photos of my Overlander from the period of 1964 to 1980 when it and its owners were regular guests at our farm. I didn't locate the crate with the photos that I know exist from 1964-1966 that have great depictions of the trailer and its tow vehicle. I did, however, find this photo that was taken in October of 1968 when I was 8 years old and the trailer was 4 years old. (I am the one holding the pony's lead rope.)

Just days before the photo a late-season thuderstorm had blown through ripping off the refrigerator vent and damaging the jalousie windows. The photo doesn't show the temporary repair for the refrigerator vent, and the jalousie window had also been temporarily repaired in this photo. Later photos show the refrigerator vent having been replaced, and a slightly different jalousie window (slightly larger size) replacing the damaged original.

Good evening Kevin,

What a fun photo. I believe that day must have been my birth day, as an Airstream arrived at your home and I arrived at mine (hence that late season storm!). I would have been quite envious had I encountered you then, I always wanted a pony!

I will look forward to viewing more photos from your archives, as you come across them. I, too, will keep an eye out amongst our family photos. Mimi was our guest at Christmas and is delighted to speak of Bumpa and her Airstream adventures, particularly in Mexico, where their big jar of peanut butter and loaf of squishy white bread made a huge impression on the native children when passed out at lunchtime, and we won't even get into the response when offered seconds!

May we all be blessed with such wonderful memories along the way, and maybe a pony too (someday).

ciao. carmen
