Newbie- 1967 Overlander

Hello! I just picked up my first AS. It's a 1967 Overlander Int. The trailer is in pretty much original condition with a few up-dates to the flooring. I'm just trying to poke around here in the forums to see where I need to start. It really is an overload of information.

My first Question: Is there a search function for the forums or can anyone offer advice as to how to navigate the forums to find what your looking for in a more timely manor than just reading down the lists? I could sit here and read these for days as they are so full of great information, but there are a few things I need to tackle right away to help dry in the trailer.

Thanks,

Adam

Use Google search

Search terms are Airstream Forum plus your topic

Using google and searching for "airforums" and your query is a good plan. The search bar in the top right is also fairly useful if you spend some time getting to know the advanced options.

Start a thread in the model specific forum (http://www.airforums.com/forums/f372/ for your 67 overlander) and post some pictures, document your modifications and updates, and ask questions. People will pop in to offer assistance. Don't forget the pictures. We like pictures.

Welcome to the Forums! In answer to the "where do I start?" you might want to start by going to the "Portal" tab at the top of the page, and then scroll down until you see a link to the buyer's inspection checklist. If you go through that checklist, you will know at the end what you are up against.

good luck!

Adam,
I am just up the road from you in Sunset Valley (Austin is our biggest suburb.
Consider me a lifeline if you want. PM me and I'll give you my number. It's much easier to to it "stream of consciousness" style than post, wait, read, post etc...

1967Over,

Welcome to the forums and to Airstreaming. We hope you enjoy the project phase of Airstreaming as much as we're certain you'll enjoy the travel and adventure stage.

Another useful technique for searching is to note the "Forum" column in "New Posts" and click on whatever subject you're interested. For example there is a "Forum" heading for "1967 Overlander" that will be come up with the thread titles for many related topics. You can quickly scan down the list and find some that may help with your questions at the time. Other "Forums" include things that will interest you when you tackle them. Sometimes reading through the list will help you figure out questions to ask that you didn't know you had.

We just finished (not that you really ever finish) a 1968 Overlander. I've included the link to our thread here if you're interested, https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...ty-158909.html

Enjoy,

Roy and Marie

I bought the trailer almost exactly 1 year ago. Haven't done much too it yet but I've been doing a lot of research on here since we had our baby girl back in Feb. My wife thinks I'm crazy for buying the trailer but I'm secretly hoping she'll like camping once I get it fixed up. I really want to share my childhood memories of camping with my parents in our old Airstream with my two kids, a 2 year old and a 6 month old. I'm brain washing the 2 year old to love the Airstream, drives my wife nuts but she's a great sport! Trying to find ways to get her involved in the restoration. Not sure how much time I'll have to work on it, but I'm going to give it ago. I've spent the last few months trying to dry in the unit. I'd like to start a thread to start posting pics.

Question, should I start the thread in the general topics or in the specific trailer area under 1967 Overlander? I just didn't know how much traffic it would get in the specific trailer section.

Ian I appreciate you reaching out. I'm sure I'll come up a few questions along the way. Not sure how to private message.

Thanks, Adam

Adam, another thought along the line as Ian would be to check out some of the local rallies coming up around the area. You can find those also listed on the forums. Figure the PM process out and you can reach out for some up close and hands on experience. There are a lot of people around your area that have done fantastic renovation jobs on their vintage trailers who would be more than happy to answer questions. Good luck.

Adam,

Tap my name and options will come up to private message me. I've got tools you can use and enough knowledge to be dangerous (I'm 3 deep in vintage trailers, two that roll).

I feel you on the creating family memories with these things. We've had some good times with many more to come in our trailers. We have an almost 6 yo and a 1 1/2 yo. They both get so excited about aluminum that rolls.

my wife was not thrilled with the idea when we got out first Airstream. It was a classic motorhome, and she was afraid to ride in the thing. THat improved after a great first trip to Sanibel Island in Florida, though not without some "issues".
I learned to carry a very well stocked toolbox and an assortment of spare stuff.
Since then, now on our 4th Airstream, we have truly enjoyed the travel and the experiences, meeting new friends. And all that goes with it. My two boys are grown and out of the house so its just the two of us. The Overlander is the perfect size for a couple also.
