New Kid

Hi from the Beautiful Pacific Northwest...I'm 'Cat'...(my nickname)...and my Excella is a 32 foot 1981 model...I call "Bear"...
Bear hasn't been on the road in 3 years....in 'dry dock' for extensive remodeling/refitting/redecorating...and MORE. I am a designer by trade...Bear has been my 'pallet' and is nearing completion.
Looking forward to the forums here.

Hi Char & Hi Michael...
This is a really cool site. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the things to learn, but I can see where it's going to be easy & fun.

Hey Char:
I'm out of Kelowna...raised in Burnaby (Jubilee District) which is not too far from MetroTown. I used to go to New Westminster a lot when I was there (as a kid), because some my cousins lived there before they moved close to us in Jubilee. That was when there was still a PRISON there. Gawd! that place used to freak me out!
Jubilee used to have it's own post office and drug store (my Uncle owned it & was the pharmacist...but now, they're gone and it's just a neighborhood. My Uncle moved the Drug Store downtown on Georgia Street. The house is still there tho' and is pretty as ever.

Right now I'm in the States but I come up a lot---about 100 miles from Customs, gearing up for a trip back to Kelowna---which I'll prob. take without Bear! (boohoo) but he's just not ready...& I'm not sure if I am...????? (yikes! We haven't been on a trip yet together...and I can't tow him with my NissanSX -- hehehe!

Yes.....photos are coming Michael (I'd like to see more of yours!) Do you have a place on here where I can see more?

Is this site owned by AirstreamDreams? The little "Logo" of he shiney Bambi (above left on this page) ...it looks just like the one on their website. I enjoy that site...and really enjoy the photos on the CrazyLikeYou "sub-site"... Have you guys been on it? They have really good products for sale too..

Well, thanx for the welcome, I'll respond again.. I'll post again soon..
........Cat

Cat,

I'm looking forward to the pictures of "bear." When your ready post them to Airstreamsphoto.com which is affiliated with this web site.

To view pictures of our Argosy, click on "profile" at the bottom of this post and click on the photos link. These are the only digital photos we have for now. We have many others, but they were taken the old fashion way. I haven't figured a way to post any of those except to my harddrive.

Anyway, welcome!

Question Photos online

Michael...

I couldn't find the photo button to go to see the photo gallery.

Could you tell me more specifically where it is? I looked at the bottom, and couldn't see anything that had to do with pix. & pix will be downloaded IF I don't have to use a digital camera...cuz I don't have one.
Can't you just download some photos to a floppy disc and download them to the List? You don't need a digital to do it that way.

Michael...which town are you near in Western Oregon.. ? I'm driving down soon for 2 weeks in Northern & Central Calif. I drive down 101...would that be near where you live?

Well...let me know soon how to find the photo 'button'..ok?

Cat,

At the bottom of my post is a "profile" button. Click on that and it will take you to an area which includes my "photo gallery." Just click on that and vwala.

As far as uploading regular kodak pictures from your floppy, I'd have to say no to the possibility of using them. I could be wrong and would love for someone to correct me if I am. The pictures have to be "jpg or gif" files in order to upload. As far as I know those are only created by digital cameras!

My wife and I live in Creswell, Oregon. It's about 10 miles south of Eugene off of I-5. If you come back up this way, let me know, maybe we could get together for a meal. I would love to hear your renovation stories!!!!!

Let us know.

You can scan pictures from a regular camera and then convert them when you save to JPEG format. Also your local photo finisher can put a copy on a cd rom for you and then they can be uploaded as copies from that. Lastly some developers will process film and put the photos out on a web site where you can view, copy, etc. Then repost here, or link to them.
I have used Webshots for things like that before, although lately their site has been hard to get into.

Dear Alansd,

Is there a possibility you could elaborate on converting scanned photos to JPEG format. There are a few more pictures I would love to upload to my photo gallery.

Any of your time spent on this subject is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

Thanks.

Talking

hi you guys..
thanx for the tour...Michael I like your front window-bay! Really wide and the dinette must really be neat to sit at when the view is good. (when is it NOT!??)

I don't have a photo on floppy of Bear to send on right now...but let me just try to send one of "Cat"... and this is in JPEG format I believe...anyway---it's NOT on digital. So, if this works, I'll get a bunch of Bear downloaded this next week...as soon as this purchase transaction with my 'new' car settles down.

BTW...update: Bear's new refrigerator panels are being enameled tomorrow by a Sports Bike enamel Artist! I'm so jazzed about i! It'll take a week for them to dry well...and then they get slipped in! I ordered new 'strips' from a 'boneyard'...and paid almost $25 for just ONE! and they were four inches too long! So, THAT"S FOR SALE TOO! So, in place of the strip (with the Logo on it), I'm putting mosaic tile.

See what I mean? ok....... here's the jpeg of me

Converting to a Jpeg or GIF- when you scan a photo you have the option to save it in a number of different ways. Your program should have an option to send it to a file as a blck and white image, as a color image, etc., and also as a JPEG,GIF, RichText Format, Text and image file, etc.
If you save to Microsoft Publisher for instance, you can edit the photo, then "save as", and hit the little arrow button at the bottom of the screen for choices as to what to save it as.
A photo editing program would even be a better choice to save in, like Microsoft Photo editor, or Photo Draw, or what ever you have available. Most will let you edit the photo,as to size and such, and then save it editied.
If you get the image into that program you should be able to pick how you want to save it. I have a relatively inexpensive program called Printmaster from Broderbund, that will work well also, although I prefer the MS programs as they work well together, allowing me to basically edit photos in almost any way.
If you got to zdnet.com, or shareware.com, you can find free photo editing programs there available to download. Look for one that has a review with it so you can tell how complicated they are.
Hope this is helpful.

Michael & Alan...are your rigs the same? The AVATAR by your names look like the same model Airstreams. Is there a place on the website where we can go pick an Avatar to put by our name...I'd like to pick one . Can you tell me how you do that?

I'm really enjoying this discussion about the photos....
Have any of you gone to the CrazyLikeYou section of AirstreamDreams.com website? The photos there are like our section sort of.

This discussion...if I get my photos onto a disc ... or a CD....will I be able to put them into the Forum's photo Album. Also, do you know why I can enlargen the photo ON the website, but when I get it to another (my own mailbox)...it won't do it. ????

UPDATE on BEAR:
1. THE PAINTER (ENAMEL ARTIST) CAME TODAY AND ETCHED & PAINTED MY STEEL PANELS FOR MY FRIG... IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! It has to dry all week before he'll install them in the refrigerator...and before he does, he'll buff them out with a wet-sander...and the a dry buffer. Then they'll be READY!
For all you ladies!!!?....THEY'LL BE READY FOR MY MAGNETS!!!

2. THE UPHOLSTERER is picking up the swivel chair this afternoon to do it. (kinda like the ones in your LandYacht Michael....wasn't that the MotorHome A/S that you had the chairs, couch & captains all reupholstered?

Hey Michael...Did I already ask you where in Oregon you are? I'm getting my car delivered this afternoon, and I'm gong to take off down the coast soon, and I thought we could say 'hey' when I do.

Peace/Love/Joy..............Cat

Cat,

In order to generate an Avatar with your post, you must first click on the "user cp" button at the top of your page. Once inside, click on "edit options" scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Change Avatar." It will bring you to area where you can choose from one of the avatars already created or you can customize and create your own from a photo you've downloaded. If you decide to create your own, just follow the intructions provided by Alansd above on a previous post.

As far as Alansd and I having the same avatars, I'm not sure what to say. From my end, my avatar shows a frontal view of our Argosy and Alansd shows a motorhome. I hope they are different on your end. If not, you might not want to follow my directions on creating your own avatar, because I apparently don't know what I'm talking about. "Please tell me there different."

My wife and I live in Creswell, just 10 miles south of Eugene off of I-5. You stated that you were going to Northern and Central California in the next couple of weeks using 101. If you decide to come back up I-5 let us know and maybe we can get together for dinner or something. We would love to see pictures of "bear" and talk about your remodling.

Let us know.

Alansd,

Thank you for your help explaining the conversion of scanned kodak pictures to jpeg files. It actually worked. I'm pretty excited because my wife and I are trying to create our own website and were limited on the number of digital photos available. I plan to upload a few more pictures of our Argosy later, but you can view our latest. Just a picture of first trip out this past January to Florence, Oregon.

Again, thank you for your patience and time. Hopefully, more people will get "some learn'n" from your wisdom, as I certainly have!!!!!!

Michael...It's ok...it's like you thought. I just mixed up Alan's with "The New Kid 64"...& Alan's is bigger than "New's" I think. But I got it. & thanx for making me stop and pay more attention. My glasses don't work as good as I'd like, so I make some mistakes like that now and then... my apologies...

I'm going to find an Avatar...
later.
