New Airstream Owner in Oklahoma
To start off, i've wanted an Airstream since I was a kid and seen them on the highway. I spend a lot of my free time, having fun with vintage stuff and I Finally, at 57, i'm a proud owner of an Airstream Globetrotter that I can't wait to restore.
Sadly, I got this at the demise of a friends uncle but his aunt is very happy that I will be restoring it and she can't wait to see pictures of the process. My friends uncle used it as a hunting trailer and just before passing, he replaced the tires and bearings (which really helped in the 130 mile transport to my home). Has a window A/C unit that's coming out and the front window was boarded up but the outside is actually in really good shape and the interior is mostly there.
To be upfront, I picked it up for $1500.
I have some questions though and it has to do with the serial. I've provided pictures of the plates and the Airstream for info and what i'm up against in the restoration but is it a 59 or a 64 Globetrotter??? Is it 21'? Based on what i've researched, the "S" means California and that's confirmed by the manufacture plate.
The California plate says: M-4 S-2159 3777
The Airstream plate says: 41 S 2159 6405
I plan on using the wealth of knowledge in this forum to help in restoration because the amount of info here is almost overwhelming. I appreciate any info that anyone can provide and can't wait for spring to start digging into this project.
If anyone has issues with the pictures, just let me know and I can post them again but bigger.
