Narrow body/Wide body
I was looking at some of my photo archives and I noticed the picture I took up at Jackson Center in August 2001. If you every wanted to physically see the difference between the narrow and wide body Airstreams, look here.
Regards,
Jack

Weren't the 1980's models even narrower than 1970's models by 6" inches?

That is what I saw when I looked at the 22' vs. the 25'...and coming from a 10' box pop up, that was more than enough to convince me that the 25' was too big for us! I'm sure, NOW, we could handle the 25' fine, but we're thrilled with the 22' and couldn't be happier!
Great picture-truly shows what a big difference there is!

I didn't think that the wide body at first was a real big deal....then a simple twist of fate and here we are with a wide body. I really like it, and the 25' is shockingly, extremely manageable. More than I could have thought possible. Not any different/difficult than the 19' Bambi was.
If anyone is on the ropes about the wide body, don't give it a second thought. You'd be amazed what about 6 extra inches can do and how manageable it is.
Of course, I came from a 19' Bambi, cute great coach, but a night and day difference. I don't think I'd go with less than the widebody 25', esp after my exp with our current coach.

What are the widths?
Does anyone know what the widths are for the 70's trailers, like my 71 Ambassador, and what is the width for the new trailers?
I'd be interested to know.

hi bimi
well you bring up an important question...because the photo is not comparing the last 2 model widths....
i think the trailer on the left is pre 'pushed out' corners...so its a 7ft wide model..
going back to the 50s....75inches, 77 inches, 80 inches, 81 inches, 83 inches were the incremental widths....
so your 71 should be a 7ft wide...which was really 83inches...i think....
this width ran from 69 to 82...or 84?
then the next increase.....with the pushed out corners and the width was 8ft......
then mid 90s we get the 'wide body' 8ft/6inches....
even during the wider years there have been some 'little' models that were narrower...
102 inches should be it....because that is the widest allowed on many roadways...for now.
cheers

Thank you, but another question
I appreciate the information, but I have another question. My 71, which I totally believe is a 7 footer as you say, says 8 ft. wide on the registration. Why would it say this, and is this something that I should get changed? I am wondering if I am paying my good friend Texas more than I should because of an inaccurate registration.
I don't know how my good friend Texas assesses taxes on travel trailers, but maybe I should look this up.
Anyone care to venture an idea on this?

hi bimi
have you taken a tape measure to the task?
chalk the drive and measure it. or run a string from to nails...
report back your findings....
width isn't used for taxing, that i'm aware of....
unless living in one of the narrow minded states......
usually it's lenght or weight or value, or a combo of these...
texas could be adding a 'world tax' since you have an international.....
cheers
