LP detector CHIRPING sound...

Hello - 3 times now I've been awakened by a chirping sound coming from the LP detector panel. When it does this the light on the panel is steady orange. I'm currently plugged in and the heater is on. I'm showing full battery charge (because I'm plugged in), and I've been plugged in for 4 days with no chirping until now. I held the "test" button until the light went green and the chirping stopped. The manual reads that if it's chirping and the light is steady orange then you should see an Airstream dealer, which I did. They said it was because one of my batteries was weak. They replaced it and said all was fine, but the chirping is back. What is this and what to do? Thanks much!

Normally that's a sign of low voltage on the 12 volt power input - I've had that happen in my trailer as well. But plugging into shore power always stopped the chirping. Since you still have the problem after the dealer looked at it an replaced a battery, I'd ask them to replace the propane detector.

When we got our 'stream, it had been sitting for almost two years. Dust built up on the sensor causing it to chirp and eventually sound continuously until the dust burned off. It has been fine ever since.

When mine chirped it was dying. DC power good. Clean. Just dead.

Go with the above responses first. I've noticed an oddity -- covering the face of our LP detector will cause it to go off. Ours will chirp if I'm covering the sensor with a foot or our dog is blocking it.

I don't have my manual in front of me right now but I do believe that there are instructions in there to "reset" the detector. I had trouble with mine when I first got it because the batteries were toasted by the PO. After installing new ones, I would occasionally still get the chirp. I went through the suggested steps in the manual and all is good now. They suggest that you do this before each season, more often even.

I think you have to hold down the test button, or was it the reset button, for a few seconds for the unit to go through the diagnostics.
