I believe that anyone who uses a CAT as their Avatar should have their post(s) moved into the "My Refrigerator Door will not Close" Thread, unless they had been declawed.
There are Low Jackers and High Jackers already on THIS Thread. I know who you are, or at least by the phony names. At least Half or maybe three Halves of this Thread are previous HiJackers, "prima facie" calling card is a Thread Post Count over 1,000. Most living below 2,000 feet elevation and full of Helium and Methane.
Those with fewer than 1,000 Forum Posts are routine standard Low Jackers and not sophisticated enough, yet, for serious comments on this Forum.
Those intelligent posters having less than 100 posts to their current Avatar and fake name. You are among the elite. You are using your free time wisely, speak up only when necessary and most likely are not an Airstream owner.
When you have no trailer needing constant attention or upgrades, you would through common sense ... lack the necessary serendipity to Troll this Forum, considering the crowd you must deal with feeling bad about themselves. YOU, gentlemen and women, are the preeminent Trolls. I curtsey to you.
Why would you have a Thread complaining about television reception and not own a television in a trailer that will not operate on 12 volts, while boon docking?l Of course the television does not work, it operates on 110volts, unless you have a European 220volt trailer that ended up for sale on a USA RV lot. The 110v/220v might be an issue for a Thread.
What about a Thread concerning not knowing a light switch operates the lights in a trailer and need an opinion if it is a warranty issue or if they can program their IPhone to do it.
If this is not making mockery of a Thread in an aggressive manner and "don't like the tone of your typing ability", send me and about 50% to 150% responding to this Thread to Purgatory which is the Some Other Band website that could use some of this Rude Behavior of the unwanted Jackers on this website.

When I am actually trying to be a jerk, I do not use emoticons; it ruins the intent.
If I want to play the part of a jerk in a half hearted, tongue in cheek manner, I would use or

I have two hopes for the board.
1. The trolls go away
2. The thread hijackers learn how to create an original post with their own topic.
Now, I have said it here in my own post versus pointing someone out in a specific thread.
Apologies for my rant - nuf' said.

We work hard to keep the board friendly and for the most part it is. Airstreamers are just cool...
That said, if you have a concern with a post, please hit the report post button. Someone will have a look.

Why?
1. They raise the viewing count. If every forum read like an accounting textbook, who would go there? High viewing count = sponsorship/advertising dollars = website sustainability.
2. In the case of the AFs, if one is in the mood to hijack, interlope, or troll, they are obviously not having any technical issues with their trailer. This is the best "why you should buy an Airstream" endorsement of all!

Well; no. actually. True trolls are bad for forums. They drive away well mannered folks who just aren't interested in engaging in a cyber smackdown. MOST forum users avoid conflict. They don't complain, they just check out. All that remain are trolls. Trolls talking smack to other trolls. Lots of drama, not much useful content and surely no fun for tender newbie Airstreamers.

Ding Ding - we have a winner! Trolls get pleasure from stirring up drama. The drama is the reward. Refusing to engage them is the best way to shut them down. That and reporting trouble to the site team

I completely agree. The goal at AIR is a campfire vibe. Fun, maybe a bit edgy but fundamentally nice.
The site rules are an interesting read. This is the bit about trolling:
Trolling and cyberstalking are NOT allowed and are grounds for account restriction or banishment. Trolling on this board includes posting controversial and often irrelevant or off-topic messages with the intention of (or anticipated result of) baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal, harmonious on-topic discussion, especially when a pattern of such posting is apparent. We have surprisingly little trouble for such an active community. Maybe we need a work camp for trolls? I have a trailer that needs polishing...

Two comments directed primarily at those who are genuinely curious about trolling and hijacking:
(1) Some forum users play the trolling card the way politicians play the race card: as soon as they see something that doesn't conform to their extra-delicate sensibilities, the sky is the limit with accusations. I've seen cases where other users will respond by baiting those users because they somewhat justifiably conclude that they deserve it! The take-away is that sometimes people troll by accusing others of trolling - that is their modus operandi. One has to use one's brain in parsing each context where this type of behavior arises.
(2) This forum is different from others in which I participate in that it has this prominent but geographically-dispersed off-forum social component. Most of the hijacking that I have seen appears to be somewhat reflexively unintentional in character. Typically those scenarios start with someone making a relevant comment on a thread and then someone else recognizes that person. The ensuing thread proceeds like this:
"Oh hi, John! Long time no see! How have you been?!"
"I'm fine Jane! And yourself?"
"Oh I'm great, but have you heard from Joe lately? We were supposed to meet up at Aluma-Dee-Doo-Dah but he never showed!"
"Gee that's weird Jane, because he always goes."
"Oh, I know... I wonder what happened?"
Uuuughhh.... there have been many times when I've wanted to interject something along the lines of "Guys, guys, guys... please take it to PM!!" but I never have done that, primarily because I don't see other users doing it whereas in other forums, that would be sharply curtailed. I have sort of assumed that it is Air Forums etiquette that people be allowed to prattle on like that because of the social component, even if it wastes the time of five hundred other users. Anyone have thoughts on that issue??

I think you're absolutely correct, IB, and the social hijacking of a thread is something I am very guilty of.
I will be more aware from this moment on.

The Internet has allowed any person with any opinion or any 'facts and/or experiences' to become an instantly published author and in some cases, an authoritative author at that. While AirForums is a great resource due to our collective knowledge and experiences, there will always be outliers - some posters just need more attention than others. Like you, I've posted replies and stated personal experiences just to be shot down or rebutted harshly. My response - Hmmmm. That's about all their opinion means to me when stated in condescending ways. I try not to take it personally and I certainly refuse to validate an 'experts' opine. Just venting here, thank you for saying what many of us feel (at least this poster totally agrees and supports the OP)

Yup, exactly these types of posts. All I have to say to some of these posters is: 'It's not a perfect world, get off the road if you are that afraid of the rest of us. '
Cheers,
G.

Without a certain allowance for levity and exchange of pleasantries on the forum, I'm probably not going to be interested in it. OTOH, I'm not interested in negative or hurtful comments, either. I'm not bothered by a brief digression from the OP's point, so long as it doesn't take over the thread entirely. It's the total community that draws me here. I'm a newbie here, and still very much evaluating whether this forum is a good fit for me, as you longer-term members probably are of us. In dating terms, we're still very much in the "let's meet at Starbucks" phase of the relationship. As some have already mentioned, I think in order to have a successful forum, it is important to accommodate a variety of personalities and styles.

I just wanted to make one thing clear. I am not advocating malicious and unkind "trolling," whatever the arena.

Does that apply to catch and release trolling?
