Louvered Windows

What are those stacked louvered windows called that are just to the front of the door on some 1960s Airstreams? What models and year trailers had them? What are the benefits and disadvantages to them? Any rain issues? Why were they discontinued?

I think they look fabulous and really catch the eye on a polished trailer.

They are called jalousie windows and I agree, I like the look! The were invented I believe to maximize airflow.... That's why the are much more common in warmer climes like Florida and the tropics.

One disadvantage is that they are hard to secure, no real lock on them. The also have many moving parts, often attached with steel rivets which are rusty and degraded. It's my only window left to rebuild and I'm dreading it.

Even though mine lacks the correct seals I don't find it leaks anymore/ less than my other windows

Thanks for the reply. Do the jalousie windows have screens?

Knowing the name, I did a search and it seems like they were installed on airstreams from about 1950 to 1964. Too bad! I was thinking I'd like to get a 1968 model since that year was very meaningful to me. Probably discontinued because in cold temperatures they let in too much cold air.
