Looking for service

Once again we're talking about getting an Airstream, and this time I think we're much more serious about it. We are full-timers with a winter base at The Ranch, an Escapees co-op between Carlsbad and Artesia, NM. Airstreams aren't exactly plentiful around here, so I'm not surprised that there isn't a dealer all that close. We're used to that with our Foretravel.

Yesterday I talked to a couple who recently (last month) purchased their first RV - a brand new Airstream. They were praising the dealer in Austin, TX, but their only interaction was the purchase of their trailer. They were on their way there for the 30-day checkup.

Is this a reasonable place for us to use if we actually get an Airstream? I've thought about the factory, but that is more than a little out of the way of our normal travels. Austin is not. In fact, it is near some of our favorite parks.

What worked for me....was asking the local KOA for the best mobile RV tech in the area. Found one what was a former Airstream dealer mechanic. I am hesitant to take it to a dealer shop. If it is serious enough, it is worth the travel and experience to go to the factory.

If you're willing to drive to Austin, ck with Bayer RV in Dublin, Tx. I bought two AS's from them.

Camper Clinic II in Austin is generally considered to be a rather poor dealership. I’m glad your sales experience was a good one. From NM, I’d look elsewhere. A&P Vintage Trailer Works in Paradise has an excellent reputation.

Airstream of New Mexico (aka Holiday Travel Trailers) has been around forever. Relatively small and family owned. My sister-in-law bought two Airstreams from them, a 23’ and a 27’ and she felt she was treated well.

I have only used their service department and have nothing but high praise to offer for the quality of their work.
