Lightbulb Kill A WATT™

Just the thing to monitor your extented power usage.

Model P4400, can do this.
Quote:
Connect your appliances into the Kill A Watt™, and assess how efficient they are. A large LCD display counts consumption by the Kilowatt-hour just like utility companies. You can figure out your electrical expenses by the hour, day, week, month, even an entire year. Monitor the quality of your power by displaying Voltage, Line Frequency, and Power Factor.

To measure the current draw of 120VAC appliances (under 10A), I use a homemade extension cord with a single-gang receptacle box on one end. Rather than go to the duplex outlet, the hot wire of the cord goes to a banana plug receptacle. Another banana plug receptacle is wired to the hot side of the duplex outlet.

My multimeter, with banana plug leads, plugs into the banana plug receptacles and all current going to anything plugged into the duplex outlet goes through the meter.

This is a great way to find out how much individual appliances are actually going to draw from an inverter or generator.

For 12V charge and discharge, I plan on getting a Link 10 amp-hour meter. Trace and Trimetic also make these, but they don't account for the Peukert Effect like the Link does.

Hope this helps,

Interesting, but

I didn't see a price on the site. I'd like to get one for home use to find out in those bright yellow energy stickers are telling me the truth or just feeding me a line. I'm sorry, I don't trust those stickers.

Lightbulb True...

Excellent point Moe~

The thing that caught my attention was the statement, which mentions the ability to measure the "long term" consumption of the device it's monitoring.
I'm going to try to see if I can get my hands on one for a closer look.

Stan, you're right, I also could not find a price for it either. I reckon we’ll have to call them..

Haven't really used it that much. It is very simple to use. It will not track variations. It just shows you what is going on at that time. The only accumulator is the KWH.
