Drive the wheels

I've been told I'm a good trailer backer by many. Usually get it where I want it on the first try. Here's my secret - Don't think about backing up a huge trailer. Instead, think about where the trailer's wheels are now on whichever side you can see, where you want them to be when you're done and imagine a curved path on the ground from where they are to where they need to be. Then just look at those two trailer wheels as you back up (don't look at the trailer itself), pushing them along this imaginary path. I often set two of those orange leveling blocks near where I want the wheels to end up as markers.

I always have my wife standing back where I can see her hand signals. Her primary task is to not let me hit anything.
