Somebody please try to explain why the '55 Overlander via serial number looks like a '53 Flying Cloud. I have more pictures for the interested.

my guess is that this is a 54 FC. it looks like maybe this is the middle of the year when they changed from 'whale tail' to 13 panel. see:

http://www.vintageairstream.com/archives1/54FC/1954FlyingCloud6/index.html

Edit: however, this would make vintageairstream.com 's info wrong. they write " California | 7NNN (about 7600 to 7750)" and this looks like the VIN is 7165.

this is one of the last in the production line according to their info, and its a 13 panel.

This one in Portland is one of my preferred layouts -a Safari Twin (for two adults and one Great Dane). But it's been gutted.

The owner says the title reads Serial 7146 and when you blow up the picture that is what it appears to be, which would categorize it as the second 1956 Overlander built out of the Ohio plant which would fit with the 13 panel design. Unfortunately it measures 22' so it is quite impossible for it to be an Overlander. Not only that but the owner states there is NO shower and it does not have a range/oven, only a portable stove that matches the fridge. It clearly has the square back prior to the sloped rear end in '54. Perplexing, right? I would consider it as a project but how do you restore not even knowing what model to restore it too. It matches no floorplans on the Airstream site. Here's my theory. It is a '52 Flying Cloud out of California. Check this out and this one's serial # is a close sister #7143.1952FC_7143
The windows and lights fit into this year. It might also explain the lack of most of the modern amenities, such as, oven/range and shower. What do you guys think? Heck it may even be a '51. The serials fit. Now I really want it..........I think. Parts? Yeah right.

Wisco, i think your right. i think its a 52 FC. the cabinets in the link and the cabinets in the pic the owner sent are IDENTICAL.

i would suggest maybe that the portable stove/ fridge is after market? id be interested to see what is on the curbside , where the trailer fridge SHOULD be.

1952 Clipper?

1952 Airstream Clipper

Found this on CL today. Thinking about adding another to the stable . Gonna check it out later in the week. Seller claims that S/N is 5078 making it possibly the last one out of CA. Seller has no title. Inputs concerning model year, value, and general tips on what to look for are all appreciated.

The price was already pushing the envelope @ 3500.00. 43 years in one spot, no tires, and heck of alot of variables. Not ALL original either. The wheel wells had been cut larger for some odd reason. That's the two largest panels on the entire coach needing replaced. If only I were independently wealthy.

I am new to Airstream's but from my research it is a late 1951-"52" flying Cloud Thrifty model. These were designed to save about 300.00 in cost of the unit when sold new, base model if you will. You could add certain items to save money...
It appears to be all original with the options. Any more info would be helpful since I am learning.... I am already in love with it regardless!

There's a Silver Streak Clipper showing up in Austin's CL for $1400 where the body/frame look really great, but the interior is a little the worse for wear.

1957 silver streak clipper airstream

Not an Airstream, but still worthy of rescue, despite the owner's attitude...
