Iconic Airstreams?

Greetings — what Airstream model would truly be considered "Iconic." Historic, timeless, and magical. Bambi? Clipper? Teardrop? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I may be biased, but I think the 1955 Flying Cloud (and other models) whale tail is one sought after Airstream. Also, Art Costello’s attempt to make Airstream more profitable by manufacturing the 66 Safari ( and other models) with the curves windows. Like I mentioned, I may be biased.

RE: Iconic Airstreams?

There is one major feature that makes an Airstream Iconic to me, and that is the Door-Within-A-Door! I have had several RVs over the years, and the downfall for each of them was the separate screen door, as it never quite fit properly, always in some way interfered with the operation of the main entrance door, and made accessing the main door lock/handle unnecessarily complex. The Door-Within-A-Door is one of my absolute favorite features on my 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International -- I just wish that my 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre also had one!!

I completely agree that the mid-50’s are standouts, not just for the end cap designs but also for the overall body shape. Equally attractive to me are the 1964 and earlier with the door-within-a-door and the jalousie (louver) windows. Clippers, of course……
