I had a STemi

I've read alot on the forums but it's been awhile since I posted.

Three weeks ago today I had a STemi, and if you know what that is, I hope you've never seen or experienced one. More commonly known as a " widow maker" heart attack. It's has been a emotional rollercoaster for me.

When i got home my thought was travels are over, sit on the porch and watch everybody else go by. But thank the Lord I will get better and be back out there soon.

Get your check ups folk and LISTEN to your Dr. Hope to see you on the road again!

Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

stemi

A few months after my doctor told me my heart was just fine I had a stemi standing outside my 71 Sovereign. I'm a retired nurse and I knew something bad was happening. Fortunately I was close to a hospital. Ended up spending 4 hours in the cath lab and having 3 stents placed. Very scary experience. Glad you survived "the widow maker".

Take care!

Glad that you're still with us. I went through similar thoughts, after a few times this year when parts of my body went on strike while traveling. I was unable to stand or to see: I got terrified. I was very depressed but I also got some clarity as to what is important to me.

Eventually, I did recover but never knew if the incident would return. Consequently, I decided to simplify my life and gear to accommodate my situation accordingly. Perhaps with contingency planning, you can continue to travel but perhaps on a reduced schedule, duration, distance, or just near emergency care.

Thanks for the education. Now I know what a STemi is. Glad you are on the mend and working towards traveling with your Airstream.

Maybe that was just a bad joke. Hey, Im guilty of those..

The connection is he almost bought the big Airstream in the sky! No doubt its been emotional! The thought of “watching everyone else go by” is one I can painfully relate to. Ive never had a heart attack, but I have anxiety issues so in essence, my brain thinks Im having one all the time. I feel you Denkim. I have no doubt Ill be watching YOU go by in no time!!

Denkim, Thanks for posting your story! Good news that you are on the mend and will be getting back into action. One of the Airstream specific thoughts your post offers for me is a reminder about being prepared for the unexpected. We just returned from a trip and a fact struck me, I did not know where emergency services are located. We were several miles from any kind of cell or internet access. We did have some other campers nearby but they very likely were about as unaware as us about where help could be found. New addition to our list is having a plan for the just incase. Thanks again!

CT heart scan

This is long but could save your life ...

I recommend that everyone get a CT heart scan. It could save your life, it did save mine.

A coronary calcium scan is a test for people who have no symptoms of heart disease but may be at risk for getting it. A coronary calcium scan checks for calcium buildup in the coronary arteries. Calcium in these arteries may be a sign of heart disease.

I thought I was in good health because I do a lot of bicycling. I am 75 years old, felt great and rode about 3,500 miles last year.

My wife had had one and I was impressed with the information it provided. I was having a physical at my family doctor and told him I wanted a CT heart scan. He ask WHY and that insurance wouldn't pay for it.

It takes about 20 min and is painless like an MRI.

The morning I had my test I had ridded 40 miles with my bike club. After the test, I was still on the table and expected the nurses to say your in good shape .. Instead, several nurses came in an said "Don't get off the table .. the cardiologist is waiting to talk to you and we have wheel chair coming to take you!!!!

The test discovered I had a 7cm aneurism in the ascending aorta and a distorted heart valve. It was the largest they had ever seen.

I was in surgery about a week later, my insurance did pay and would have been the best $75 I had ever spent. It took me about 6 months to get back to cycling.

Get one it could save your life.
