Honda 2200 with propane runs my AC...

I had a friend join me last week for a trip up to Banff and Glacier areas. He has a new 23D with Easystart. He ordered a new Honda 2200 with the propane option from Genconnex last month and asked me to try on my 28' FC with my 1500 AC and 1350 AC. I typically will carry my Champion 2000 for summer use up here in the Rockies, since I don't use the AC; it serves my purposes, though it is gas. I use my Champion 3400 Dual Fuel with propane in hotter climates like Texas. I do not have Easystart installed on my 28 since the Dual Fuel works fine.

We first tried the Honda 2200 with my 1350 AC; it fired up just fine...no issues, ran for 5 minuets, and cycled on/off few times. Then we tried my other unit, the 1500 AC; again, it fired up, and ran ok, but you could hear a slight load on the Honda when I cycled it a few times. I did not notice the engine degradation with the smaller 1350AC in our test. We were at 4,00 feet just to be clear on altitude.

My conclusion is not fool proof, but I was impressed with the Honda 2200 performance with the Genconnex propane option, starting my 13500 AC without help from the Eazystart. The size is great, 45 pounds~, and noise at around 57db at 15ft. Note, my Champion 2000 was same noise level at 15ft for both the Champion 2000 and the Honda 2200. If I were considering again, I would have to look hard at the new little Honda with the Genconnex conversion to propane over my 95lb Champion Dual Fuel.

Same here -- a great package IMO, with the added redundancy of being able to run the gen off a BBQ tank for emergency use at home.

Peter

PS -- FWIW -- not sure why you put this in the Forum Admin forum, instead of the Propane or Generator forums.

My Genconnex Honda 2000i + Easy Start won't run my 13.5 AC, I'm at 6400 feet. Someone else on this forum at around 5,000 feet, same issue. I am so bummed that the 2200 came out a year after I got my 2000 and then converted it to propane. I always wonder if that extra 200w would be enough to get me over the hump at these elevations. If your post said you were at 6,000 feet and it worked, I'd be selling mine today and ordering a 2200.

You already have Easy Start, and gypsydad does not, so the 2200 would probably work for you at 6,400' wouldn't it?

I'm not sure why I posted it on Admin forum either...thought they get moved if they are in the wrong spot? I have not started too many threads...usually just comment on original blogs already started.
Just to be clear, I use the Champion 3400 Dual Fuel on propane when I know I will likely need AC. I do not need the Easystart for with the Champion....at 6K+ feet, not sure I would need AC, but good to know if I do, this will work. Not sure about the Honda2200 at that altitude on propane, but typically at that altitude, I have not had "hot nights" requiring AC up here in the Rockies anyway...and during the day, we are outside doing stuff..

I was impressed with what I experienced with the Honda2200 with propane option running the 13500 AC running without an Easystart at 4,000 feet this past trip.

Don't forget one of the best features of MicroAir EasyStart is it's ability to smooth out the AC line power when hooked up to a pedestal. Your A/Cs will last a lot longer with EasyStart. No clunking when starting or stopping the compressor motor.
