I, too, am new to these forums but have been an AS owner since '99. Oh my god, how did I not find this site earlier? To say that these forums has soaked up hours upon hours of my free time is an understatement! But I have learned so much! I still got many questions but I know the threads are out there so I'll keep searching. Thanks to this awesome AS community! Airstreamers are truely special people!

PS: One downside to these forums is that it stokes up my "Gotta get on the Road" feelings. Summer is so far away, I am dying...

The official name for that disease is "Drag-up Fever."

Drag up fever is the affliction we all get when we visit the trailer or MH and want to hook up , or drag up, the rig and go somewhere, anywhere, just not back to the daily grind.

The severity of the fever is usually in direct proportion to the kind of week you are having or had at work

Newbie here!

My husband (buckwheat) and I have just recently purchased our very first RV! Wise move on our part to buy an Airstream. Even better that it happened to be Dr. Joe's. (winner) We're bringing her home this coming weekend! This forum has already proven to be a gold mine of information to us! We've been "cramming" for this new adventure of ours. Everyone here has been so helpful and willing to offer advice. This IS the place for information on the care and ownership of an Airstream. I don't know what we would have done without it!! My husband reads up on the mechanical end of things...and I read up on the decorating end.
It's fabulous, Darling!

RE: Hello Guest!!

After having frequented these forums (forii?) for some months now, I figured that it was time to wade in.

I run the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets here in Rhode Island, and we have a command and field support vehicle that we use for events, parades, etc. That vehicle being a 1987 345 Classic motorhome, and I am constantly amazed at the response it gets every time we have it out in public. People love this thing - besides serving as our unit's "U-Boat" the 345 is a rolling billboard for the Sea Cadets.

You can get a closer look here:

Go to the webpage

Airstreamforums.com has been a lifesaver for me as I keep our U-Boat shipshape and Bristol-fashion. I'm glad to be officially aboard!

Re: Seacadets

My Sea Cadets are very proud of our Airstream, especially when it accompanies them in parades. Several of them have been spending some time working in a local air museum doing some panel restoration work on an F-4 Phantom - they've gotten some experience polishing aluminum!

Re: Sea Cadets

Hoo boy. My wife was a candy-striper at the clinic at Quonset when she was in high school, back in the late 60s. Maybe she tucked you in.

Life without an Airstream?

Life without an Airstream is a tale of woe.

It took 20 years for the right one to find me & it will be for sale sometime after I die. Hopefully it will provide the next owner as much pleasure as does for me. The original owner kept it until death forced a separation. Seems to be a common part of many Airstream trailers history.

I keep mine in the yard under an RV port - can go out and touch it and care for it anytime. The dog's are charged with physical security & do a good job.

Welcome to the Forum!

Would you post some pics of your unit and the RV port?

Welcome doh!

I too was found by the greatest 1999 25' Safari "B" . I thought it would last forever but then the 2004 30' Classic found me. I know this affair will last a lifetime! I wish i could keep her in the yard, I am jealous!

I've been a member since 10/1/2003 - just too busy reading all the great posts here and having fun with the AS to get too involved with posts.

The AS has been getting a lot of TLC and gives back x2. The goal is to get it back to 6 months old condition (like new is impossible).

This is indeed a great site - probably the best single site for most. Also like the VAC.

Have really enjoyed reading the posts on this site. When I have something of value to contribute, I will.

Perhaps the best thing I can contribute at this time is what many already know - Andy & InlandRV (www.inlandrv.com) is the answer to not only finding parts - but getting it right the first time.

Wink Big Dee

You got me confused with someone that has a fat bank account.

I paid cash for the trailer, RV port and a new truck (my van was 11 years old). I enjoy my toys a lot more when they are paid for.

We looked at a very nice 95 30' Excella and decided on a 25' AS. Price was not an issue in the decision. 25' anything 'AS' are hard to find and we got a trailer in great condition (not without a few minor faults) for a reasonable price. Not sure how far it has been towed - but less than 25% of tread is missing off of the original tires (about 1/16" missing). The tires were made 9/98, the trailer was born 12/15/98.

Quite frankly - I've pondered if I would prefer a 2004 25' AS over what I have and in some ways - I like mine better, at least it has been through the debugging process. I'm focused on making it as comfortable and pleasant to live in as possible, without marring the original appearance.

I think this trailer was custom built for us in 1998 - but it just found us. It's here to stay.

The're all nice - regardless of when they were made. Each has a lot of character & soul. Some show the pain of neglect and abuse, but are made well enough to have survived for another day. Most of the SOB products do not fare as well.

I agree! I will miss my Safari because I put so many "extras" into it. (I will really miss the outside shower)

But I felt I really wanted the larger size of the 30' and the Classic line is so awesome! And so far, the debugging has been no problem (knock on wood)!
