Forums data on CD-ROM idea

The value of this forum is in the posts. There is a wealth of information here. Another un-named forum lost their database and a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I wonder if it would be possible to put this information on some kind of CD or DVD and make it a annual subscription type service. If something ever happened to the Forums, we'd still have our knowledge database. You could also take it with you and access it via laptop on the raod.

(Andy has mentioned that he does back-up this Forum has part of his normal web hosting practices. )

I would just hate to lose AirstreamForums and think this would be a kind of revenue source for the operator. We'd both benefit.

Just a thought........

CD/RW

Why buy the cow when the milk is free?

You can download anything on this forum at any time.

A CD/RW is cheap these days andwill pay for itself in no time.

True, The cow and the milk are free. But there is no fence on the yard and no brand on the cow listing us as the owner. Not that Andy will, but he COULD shut down the entire site today and never be heard from again (and he has NEVER hinted he would).

I expect The Forums will continue to grow and be a VERY popular Internet site. The value of the DVD would only be enhanced by a thriving Internet site.

There is no way a CD could even come close to holding the data (and photos). Even a DVD might only hold a time period such as a year at most.

I wonder whether we could take the threads and do more combining and eliminate some of the older repititious ones, maybe putting everything in a bit more order by topic I you still have to dig to find answers to some things that are repeatedly asked.
I have done some as I see them , but don't want to mess with them too much unless that becomes the popular opinion.
As for a cd rom archive, we could then make our own easily from the folders we want. I have been doing some of that in a binder- printing out stuff off various sites as I feel the need. Have a great section on batteries, winterizing, exhausts, etc. and lots of great photos.

I think having information on a cd is a good Idea.
But I would rather create my own CD as i would only want the portion of the forums that deals with maintaining motorhomes.
I have started doing what ALANSD stated.
I have found in my research the technical info, some with photos, along with the humor it takes to maintain an RV.
