I am still seeing some very peculiar forum behavior. On my home network, my XP machine seems to access forum functions normally. For instance, I typically look at "new posts". The XP PC shows the last 24 hrs without problems. A second PC (win 98SE), is showing posts only for the last 30 min or so. Yesterday, the time span was for for just over an hour. I have cleared history, temp internet files and all cookies. Still the same result. I see only posts for the last 30 min when selecting new posts on the win98se pc.

alan, "new posts" will only show you posts that have been made since your last visit, regardless of which pc you are using.

IMHO: It's O.K., no more no less, a 4.75 on a 1 to 10 scale. Rivets are good, Karma was not an incentive and too subjective - won't be missed by us. The point size of the new type is too small, perhaps a concession to open 'paid' marketing, & while on that subject; never mind, discretion is the better part of...

OK, Since Andy is diligently working to get all the little tweaks done let me tell you some of the cool little things I have found.
Remember on the old forum there used to be a black dot on threads you posted in? Now there is a white arrow, but here is the neat thing. If you place your cursor over the envelope with the white arrow it tells you how many posts you have in that thread.
If you have members on your buddy list they show up in the list of on line members with a plus sign next to their name, or on the home page they are in a box under your avatar.
If you are subscribed to threads you have a couple of things that are new. One is that the email that there was a response in a subscribed thread will contain a synopsis, and the other is that from your user CP you can surf those threads. Handy for ones you want to be sure to watch.
And the quick post box is really nice. No loading another screen to post!
Anybody have more neat things they found?

One thing I'm still noticing is the behavior when you click on a thread that you've already visited. first, it was going to the top of the thread, so You had to search through to find the spot where you left off...now, it goes straight to the end of the thread, so you have to search backwards to find the spot where you left off. used to be, it would auto-magically take you to your "first unread post" in any thread.
not a complaint; just a report.

Now there is a button at the top left that says "View First Unread". If you click that, it'll take you there...

The one thing that I found kewl was, Attachment Statistics. You are currently using 6.80 MB to store 420 uploaded attachments.. This allows me to review all of the photos used or, see which ones have been used too much.
The other one that makes research easier for me is: 'Archive' button on the bottom.
Then the advance feature of 'Search'~!
That is really KEWL~!

as far as new tweaks go, i LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE being able to turn off the avatars & signatures, which are aggravating clutter to me. then i can choose to display 100 posts per page and, especially without all the repetitive signature stuff, speedily scroll up & down a thread.

This was a major software upgrade and we're lucky to have it behind us. Karma, Rivet Titles and thumbnail photos will be back very soon. I'll be going through the old site to make it look and feel as close to "the way it was" as possible.
Off to work....

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but a lot of issues we have raised with Andy seem to be getting fixed. I am sure that he is doing things in order of importance to running the site, and then what we would like back or improved next.
At least it isn't America Off Line, we get to see results when we whine.

Back button to old forum
I have a strange bug with Mac and the Safari browser. If I am reading messages and then use the previous page (back) button it returns me to an old forum home page circa March 28. Then if I refresh reload it brings me back to the current forum home page. Kind of reminds me of that move "Ground Hog Day". I don't have that problem with Mac and Internet Explorer. Anyone else experience this with Safari?

Great Update!
Coming from a background in software, I know that all new upgrades have bugs. Good luck with the rollout. One benifit that I'm getting is the ability to use my HP Jornada 820 at home to look at the forums. The Jornada uses Windows CE, which didn't allow me to log in using the old forum. While it's a bit slower than a desktop, a wireless connection and 8-9 hours of battery life let me browse for longer. Kudos for the upgrade.

Sounds like you have an earlier page stored in memory. Try clearing out the cache on your 'puter, that should get rid of that pesky time warp.

Try clearing your browser's cache. Not sure where that setting is in Safari though... Good luck!

thread ratings?
How do I view thread ratings for other threads? This thread shows a rating but others don't. Am I missing something?

A thread won't have a rating unless several people have dominated it. You can rate a thread at the top right hand border under the "Rate Thread" tab (if not yet rated) or "Rating" tab if it is.

I think it would be great if we all rated threads as we read them. It will allow us to find all the best content easier over time.

Anyone else seen this?
When I go to a new thread, I want to see the first post first. Instead I see the last post first.
I have gone to User CP, Edit Options, Thread Display Options, Thread Display Mode, and selected Linear - Oldest First. It still displays the newest first.

If you select "Forum" , then from Forum select "Search" function, you'll see an "Advance Search" click on this. From here you can select the order of posting that you wish to review..Try it~
