Flying Cloud Advice..

Howdy!

Been a while since I was here. Sold my Sport 22FB in hopes of upgrading in the coming year.

But found a 100% brand new 2019 25FBQ Flying Cloud for $69K. Sticker is ~$92K

Gotta decide like now and too spun out excited and confused! Sound like a great deal!

I just have to decide upon refundable deposit and final decide in 2 days....

IS this something I'm likely to see again? 25% off....Should I haggle for more off.... what's a fair offer!

Does this happen each year where there are such deep discounts or is this exceptional? I was going to wait till Fall and grab a deal on a 2020 but this one popped up!

Thanks!

Hi

On an "everyday" basis you can get almost 20% off of the list price *somewhere*. Indeed there are dealers that don't go that far. You will be less likely to see that sort of discount in June than in ...errr ... February.

In addition, "old" inventory that is still left on the lot normally gets another discount piled on top by the factory. Moving year+ old trailers is a real good idea ....

Add that all up and 25% is about what you will find on a 2019 this time of year. You *might* get to 27% somewhere. You might also not make it to 25% somewhere else.

That is a pretty good deal. I’d have them throw in fresh batteries.

Yea it has Interstates.. and they look old.

I wonder about tires as well. Could be over a year in that lot and they were not covered when I saw it.....

They want to charge for a hitch as well which I think is part of the package for other deals....

Same company sorta owes me for poor customer service last year. They even came forth and told me without prompting the previous staff was all fired for incompetence so....

Dang! This is EXACTLY what I wanted but just a few months premature! Much less than I budgeted.....sigh..

Thanks!

It sounds like as good a deal as you are going to get. One year old tires should be fine. I would ask the dealer to throw in a couple of new batteries.

Hi

It's a pretty good bet that the deals on "old" inventory will not be around in two or three months. That assumes there isn't some undocumented glut of Airstream trailers on dealer lots. If you are looking for the "best time to deal" on a trailer, this normally is it.

Hi,

While searching for pricing on RVTRader I clicked a link for another dealer and they have a brand new 2018 but want the same price... $69K...only an 8% discount... It's farther away and doesn't offer the perks the local one does..

What "should" be a negotiating price for a 2018? List/original asking price was ~$76K....

Thanks!

I've never heard of a dealer throwing in a hitch. It's a money maker for them. They charge $800 for a $500 hitch installed. I bought mine through CL. $150. The owner had bartered for it and didn't know what it was. But then the dealer balked at installing it. We compromised on one hour labor.

25% off is a good deal. The other reason to buy off a lot is you can see if had any leaks or poorly fitted doors.

I guess I got lucky or am under estimating my bargaining powers as I got a "free" hitch installed last time.

I'll back off on pressing for that now.

Hi

The price is whatever you can negotiate at the time with that dealer. There are *way* to many variables in all this get anywhere near a "normal" number.

On a 2018 vs 2019 are they both brand new? Do they both come with a 3 year warranty? If the 2018 is used then it's warranty not 3 years from your purchase. A factory warranty is *very* different than something a dealer might come up with .....

LOVE ur tag "half a rivet short" priceless! Reading your comment about getting better deal now than later. My hubby and I are looking right now (live in MA..btw, hubby from Harrisburg area) and wondering where the best dealer would be. Do you have a favorite? Not real happy with the customer service up here. Thanks a bunch!

Everyone on the east coast likes colonial airstream in Jersey. I’ve never been but it’s the rumor around the mill. When you shop with a dealer, you are limited to what they have and are willing to do. You may want to call around and obviously go into the dealer for a face to face visit too.

We lived in CA when we bought our airstream. We went to the local dealer who claimed that if they ordered the trailer we wanted from the factory then they would charge us full MSRP. I called another dealer in OR and ended up buying out of state and driving it back to get what we wanted and a negotiated price.

No kidding confusing!

Threads go flying off topic so quick it's better to restart if an ancillary question needs posing. The other thread uses this AS as the basis but goes into more general ideas of "working a deal" How is that confusing?

Bob... if you bothered to READ the other thread you'd have quickly, post #1, found an explanation to solve your confusion....

Now I'm confused...

Press on.
I never discourage asking for more. The worst that can happen is when the dealer says, "NO."
After I succeeded getting new Endurance over the stock Marathons, I asked for new batteries too. I was told, "Your trailer will be delivered with fully charged batteries." OK!

Several years ago when we bought our 27' international signature, Airstream still had the one stage charger. Not knowing anything about batteries, I boiled one of the batteries dry.

I took both to an interstate brick and mortar store and they tested both and found one completely ruined. The other was fine. They knew what I did but didn't care. They gave me a new battery off the shelf, no questions asked.

I would do the same with the batteries in this trailer if you can't get the dealer to swap for new.

The "working the deal" thread appears to have been deleted. Did the discussion get out of hand?
