First Trip Checklist!

This weekend my 1970 Safari is (hopefully!) going to make a roundtrip journey of about 300 miles. This is the farthest it has moved in probably 20 years.

To say I'm a little nervous about this is an understatement! What can I do to insure the safest trip possible? To date I have:

- Installed a new brake controller and new brake package.
- Wheel bearings repacked.
- Lug nuts checked.
- Checked lights.
- Installed new ball.
- Checked hitch operation
- Got new tires and a new spare
- Verified insurance

What did I leave out?

Also, I've heard about trip checklists and plan to make one. What key things should be on it? Like: Be sure door & windows are locked, Step up ....

I think I'm going to go "tow practice" a little tonight just to check out the feel of the trailer prior to a long trip. Any advice would be great!

Smile Hi Dan,

Are you just taking it home or are you going on a trip? Why such a shor trip of 300 miles? We are leaving for Alaska in two weeks. The trip will be about 5,000 miles each way.
You forgot to turn on the frige and fill it with beer and vine for the bride. You will need it when you stop for the day. Food is optional as is clothing.
I am just pulling your leg. There is nothing as exiting as going trough a big city where the locals will not give you a break if you try to change lanes. The two citys I hate is Phoenix Az. And Salt Lake Utah. Best time to cross them is Sunday morning when locals are in church or asleep. It is not the city it self but all the suburbs before and after. I try to stay on secondary roads. It may be slower but there is less truck traffic.
Regards from Russell in sunny Tucson Az

I'll won't be travelling through much traffic, but I do expect to be mostly freeway.

Again, any pointers would be great!

There are threads with 'preflight' checklist, I would look for them but I am pressed for time at the moment. You might want to do a search. If I have more time later this evening, I will post a link for you.

Search for "Checklist" and you'll see several..

Welcome, and good luck on your outing...

Most of us just keep adding stuff to tow vehicle as stuff breaks or fails or we see someone else in trouble... I'm up to A/C refil hoses and air compressors by now, still nowhere near done...

There are several threads you can search for using term "checklist" or related words, using tab above... We've found the simplest and shorteest work better (just a key word to trigger the proper checking...) and ours works for both setup and prep to leave...
