Factory Brake Contol Warning
I have a 2005 Ford with the factory tow package option, and it worked well for some time, however, it is starting to display error messages (trailer fault/check wiring) and we have had the trailer power cord and the truck end replaced with no success.
Was wondering if anyone had this same situation? Is there a way to diagnose the controller on the tow vehicle?
Can a 12v coach battery if there is a defective cell in battery, for example) enter into this problem?
Would appreciate any input you may offer.

Since it appears you have a trailer i would question the use of the word coach. Are you referring to your truck battery or trailer battery?
If the truck battery is in question I would test the voltage while the truck is off. If low just swap it out with a good battery for a test. It is hard to say what lower voltage might do to a piece of electronic gear like a controller.

Check your connections at the backing plates, insure the connections are secure.

Check your trailer brake wiring to each trailer wheel, may be a pinched wire or a break somewhere. Other 2005 F250 owners with same problem traced cause to wires. Once repaired message no longer appeared.
Here is quote from Ford-trucks.com website "mine did the same thing it would say trailer fault whenever you hit the brakes and sometimes trailer disconnect but the lights would work fine and this was on a brand new trailer so I hooked a buddy of mine trailer up to it and it worked perfect so I traced my brake wires from the tongue back to the axles and found out that one of the wires had been pinched in half and the other was smashed inbetween the trailer floor and the side frame after I spliced the wires back together everything worked perfect"

For the contects between the trailer and the truck I always spray both with WD40.

A coach can be either a motor home or a trailer, but a trailer is always a trailer.

Agree with the above posts about checking the wiring at the backing plates on the trailer wheels, I had a short in mine that caused this issue with the Ford IBC on my 2006 F250.

Would advise against wd 40 around wires. Know of a case where it cost a several thousand $$ set of aircraft radios. I am aware it is a water dispersant. (Sp). Would advise us of a good contact cleaner. Goodluck.

Good customer of mine was having same problem with his 5th wheel. Finally traced it to the brake wire that Dexter had run through the axle tube. Over years of the wire bouncing around inside the axle tube, the insulation had worn away and was causing it to make contact with the inside of the axle tube, thereby creating more resistance which the brake controller read as a fault.

If the messages are appearing with trailer disconnected, the controller had probably gone bad. Fairly common problem I understand with 2005 model ( mine included). There is swap service for rebuilt one on eBay for $99 which I'm going to do soon (haven't gotten around to removing).

I recently had the same problem with the connection from the trailer and the 7 pins extension connected to my Ram truck. It seems water entered the connections and caused a short which in turn showed as a brake disconnect . A little wd40 and liquid tape corrected the problem. It seems water migrated into the connection. The give away was the flickering of the connect notice on the dash.

Just had a very similar problem. Banner said "Wiring Fault on trailer." Also got a "Trailer disconnected" when it wasn't. It was the trailer controller module. Ford dealer charged $750 for a new one. If you can get a rebuilt one on eBay for $99, now that's a plan!

I can report back that the $99 rebuild on eBay worked and resolved my controller problems.
