dr. c. & the little whore....final chapter

Having been lampooned and harpooned,
french-fried and villified,
up to my drawers in metaphors,
I am, like so many others, naming my unit.

For too long I have viewed the aging excella as a fine, yet, still immature wine. You understand, post pubescent, pre-vintage with only a slight tart, metallic taste....a sure prize winner at the VAC celebrity tasting in 2011.

But I was wrong. At the insistence of several thoughtful contributors, I've done what any good parent would have or should have done.

Talk to your trailer.

Unlike a fine wine, it was more like a fine whine. The trailer, now eighteen years old, was your typical teen-ager. Even sans tattoos and body piercings, it was morose, sullen, and classically monosyllabic. The conversation follows (trailer responses in parentheses);

"Forum users don't appreciate long posts". (duh)

"Even subtle or gentle ribbing might be construed as less
than amusing". (duh)

"No one should be so insensitive as to call any members'
trailer a little whore". (DUH ! )

Following this owner/child 'tough love' chat, the creative light had been lit and a name is at hand. We have decided to listen, to empathize, to not only nurture, but actually embrace all the DUHS.

The name, with carefully placed umlauts over the u's;

.. ..
Huggin Duhs, Air Scream

It might help to look away from your monitor for just a moment, repeat the name softly, three times, with reverence, to a loved one in the room.

Bon appetit.

An accident waiting to happen

DrC,

Aren't you afraid you'll be run off the road by a Ben & Jerry's truck? Can you imagine the police report?

Dr. C.

Hope to meet Huggins Duh in person at Rally.

We'll be in the MoHo section with the rest of the self propelled personalities.

Take heart doc...

"Even sans tattoos and body piercings, it was morose, sullen, and classically monosyllabic".

There's nothing instrinsically wrong with a mostly silent trailer. I'm sure that with time and patience your excella a la mode, will lose it's tight lipped chill.

Perhaps its' silence is a reaction to years of being ignored. Your frozen sweetie is just not used to witty repartee. Or perhaps you have not truely learned to listen. Take time to learn the language of your newly named family member. I recommend long treks thru wide open spaces.

Court your intended conversation partner. Tease and weedle your way into it's good graces. Offer it gifts and regular praise. Flatter it with lavish statements of adoration. Show it off proudly to your friends. Make your excella feel welcome! Be thoughtful - after all it's hard to be middle aged and your excella may be feeling bashful. And by the way, don't forget the Jimmies - DUH

Dr C,

That was a great post! You have a unique writing stlye and a sense of humor. Maybe you should write some columns for the new Airstream Life mag. I know I am eager to read your latest post when I see it here.

Dr. C,
To pile on, to the Airstream Life woodshed you should go! Now I know what I missed when attending English Comp I & II. Please continue the prose, its a breath of fresh air when we get too serious here.

An EXCELLENT post! The only issue I can foresee is how you'll EVER surpass that one! The bar has been raised!

I'd love to see you write a column for Airstream Life. I was laughing over your first post for two days!
