What a mess! Pyrex has a lot of stored energy in it, I've had two incidents this year involving dropping pyrex, and those things went off like a bomb, spewing shrapnel everywhere! Glad you didn't open the oven!

Our kitchen history of those pyrex dishes lead me to believe Corning has a great PR group. I have been in the doghouse for breaking a favorite, still mentions it from time to time. Had one shatter between the oven and the table. Had a bicep muscle release from it's connection to shoulder from the weight of cassarole coming out of the bottom shelf of the refrig. Nice to know you only have to clean up the mess and didn't get hurt, ovens in trailers usually aren't selfcleaning. ;-)

Going around a sharp corner without the dishes dogged-down can spring the latch on the fridge and cause just as much (or more ) fun. Ah, La Vida (The Life) !

I don't have the references handy at the moment, but the type of glass used in Corning products has changed in the past few years. There have been quite a few incidents recently. I believe the story was in Consumer Reports within the past month or two.

Hey Norby! Welcome back just in time for Alumoween. Good to see you sharing your, um, calico bean bake. Tho' only a half pound of bacon would have the Badger State turnin' you back at their borders. Mmmm... meat candy!

i just checked and consumer reports and it seems to confirm that they do in fact explode....my dish was picked up at an house sale and i dont know its age, but it was very clean. i did not take it from the freezer or any of the other disclaimers.

I think you were supposed to open the cans of beans before baking. . .

In all seriousness, we once had a casserole shatter like that for no apparent reason. Deepest sympathies, and thank God no one was hurt. . .
.

Corning is No Longer Made in Corning...

...Corning, NY that is. Sadly, confiscatory taxation drove Corning out of NY State and straight to...(Drum Roll)...If you guessed China, you win! A Corning Ware Casseroled made in China!

28 Easters ago.....

SIL invited everyone over for Ham dinner....her first foray family festival.

Tremendous bang from kitchen, oven door askew on it's hinges, ham jelly and shards of ham everywhere....

Lesson learned...take the ham out the can.

Bob

Well, I'll be damned. Is this another case of poor workmanship, i.e. someone at Jackson Center decided to "cut corners" while installing the black-tank outlet???? ewwwwwwwwwww......

Bob, and you thought you had problems~! Glad this isn't your trailer; gawd, we'd never hear the end of it. Talk about the shite hitting the fan.....or hitting the element as the case may be. Airstream would be in a lot of hot sh!t.

Here's a link to a recent Popular Science column on the issue. There's a video of him breaking it. Great read.
