The horror stories are out there LittleRadio, for every trailer manufacturer. Few have a forum like this where you can hear those stories.
Prior to the founding of this fourm there wasn't a lot of places to get information like this. Six months before ordering my new Safari I hung around the Compuserve RV forum and didn't hear much talk about Airstreams, and when I did it was from a few folks who called them Thorstreams and couldn't say a good word.
I ended up buying my Safari and quite honestly I couldn't be more pleased. Quality was better than any SOB trailer I have ever owned and I know that this trailer will be on the road a lot longer than any I have ever owned. Probably you would find that there are a lot of us who are silent who bought new and have been extremely pleased with our units.
But the bottom line is you have to feel comfortable in outlaying the $$$ that a new A/S demands. I have personally seen some of the newer styles and have some issues with interior design and quality. But if you look at the more traditional Airstream lines, the Safari and Classics, you will see interiors with much better fit and finish.
I think the newer designs will eventually become more stable. Its like anything else, feed back from those early buyers tend be the source of many product revisions. I provided feedback to Airstream regarding my stabilizers and saw that idea become a reality in later years. I know many others most likely had the same thought.
Good luck to you and I hope you stay around the forum. Who knows what the future will bring.
Regards,
Jack
