Classified question
There are what appear to be duplicate ads posted, sometimes four of what appear to be the same ad. Is this a glitch in the system, poster error, or what? Kind of frustrating when you have a slow Internet connection and half a page is the same ad.

Probably a slow internet so they hit "submit" several times.

I've seen this many times here; thought I was the only one that it bothered.
The offender is someone from Texas, name of 'wagonbar', appears to be a dealer. If that's so, this is kind of an annoying way to get your ad noticed...

Typical too to "bump up" an ad that's been around a while. Get it to the front.

The classified section is a little tricky to navigate and the adds don't post right away, sometimes even needing to be vetted first. Some posters check and don't see it so they think it didn't take and keep resubmitting it.

What Hittenstiehl posted is true in some cases, but doesn't describe what's been happening lately. We've seen this before but it hasn't been much of an issue lately, where the classifieds server has some sort of fit when creating the ad and creates multiple copies. To make it extra entertaining, it's not consistent at all... it's not a case where every ad gets 3 copies, etc. it's just that some ads get duplicated and we have to clean it up on the back end.

I have a problem: I can't find a search field in the Classifieds. I need to enter search terms and there's no place to do it. I'm embarrassed to say that I've been looking for a search field there for years and I'm finally admitting in public that I can't find it! Anyone?

Near the top there is a beige menu bar with "Quick Search" plus three buttons to fine tune things. Over to the right is an Advanced Search button. [on the desktop version of AirForums]. Are you using the App version of AF?

The search functionality in the current Classifieds system (that OTRA15 correctly pointed out to you) is really more of a filter set than a search.
If you want true search, you can make google do your bidding like so: Let's say you wanted to find every ad for an Eddie Bauer trailer... put the following string into a google search:
"eddie bauer" site:airstreamclassifieds.com
The downside of this is that it'll present all the hits in individual links and NOT in chronological order, etc. If you only want to see ads that are active, you have to think about the fact that the system puts in a tag of "Expired" when an ad ages past 90 days, so you can put the search in like this to filter out expired ads:
"eddie bauer" -expired site:airstreamclassifieds.com
PS: Be careful with the quotes. It's very literal about things you put in the quotes, it'll only hit on ads where both eddie and bauer are present and are adjacent. Google will often present an option if it finds hits without the quotes, but if it finds some that match it may only show those and you'll miss some search hits.

What a helpful post, DKB_SATX. Thanks so much.
I’ve been using google as you mention. But I haven’t tried eliminating the Expired term. That’s helpful, bc I do get a fruit salad of hits.
No true search function in the classifieds...huh. That is how it appeared, but I couldn’t figure how that could be, it seems so important. Perhaps there’s a logical reason re demands on bandwidth or the like. In any case, I thank you for clarifying for me.
