TSLanier, I was busy and didn't get on Chat Tuesday night, but ten minutes is probably not enough time to get a real idea of the room. Because people do grow to feel like friends on this forum, often the talk in Chat gets silly or seems "off Airstream," yet it's really still related because that's why we're here to begin with. I usually find some of the men deep in technical discussions that are WAY over my head or that touch on issues that don't (yet!) concern me. At the same time, there may be one or several other conversations going on between others on Chat at the same time. (Yes, it can be pretty confusing at first, but bear with it.) What you have to do is jump in, introduce yourself, tell the group where you are from, and what Airstream you have, and then ask away-one question, or several if that is your need. The Chat friends on line will not ignore your questions! They LOVE to discuss and diagnose and share/compare experiences. If your first Chat time on this forum was a disappointment, do try again this next week. Jump in, let everyone know you are there, and pop a question. You'll be pleased at the response. ~G

K, I've learned alot about chat room proticol, I'm not as bold as some.
So I have never entered the chat room, thought it was for some elitist clique. But sounds like I can participate in some of the Tuesday Night Festivities.
I'm working on my abs and can do it w/beer, introduce myself and do my best to interject appropriately. Does that cover it?
OOH and I got bumped off tuesday night also. Thought it was my computer or line. Glad to know twas not!

I have to agree that there is a lot of general rowdiness in chat. But if you ask a question and say that you're new, you will get some help.
I got some step by step instructions on how to change an axle in chat. It was extremely useful and I was able to ask questions as needed. Ignore the baad spelling and shortened sentances in chat, and have fun.

Chat problems?
I attempted several times to enter the chat room last night without success. I have been there several times before, so it's not a problem of me knowing how. After clicking on "enter chat room" I got a blank grey screen.

Sounds like the Java client is not starting when you enter the chat room. You may want to reinstall the product.

I re-installed the Java program, did a re-start, still can't access the Chat room - still goes to a grey screen. Hmmm....

I don't think its you. I had the same problem a couple of times recently. I just closed it out and retried. Took me a few times but it eventually worked.

If you are bored, you may want to try UNinstalling the Java program first, then re-install it.
Some installation programs don't reinstall files if they are already there. If that is the case, a corrupted file might not get overwritten with a good copy.
Just a thought,
Tom

Thanks Tom, That's actually what I did. I figured I might as well start fresh.

I wouldn't suggest going overboard reconfiguring your software. Many of us have been having sporadic inability to do any number of things with the Forums server. Be sure to try chat early and later Tuesday evening. If you are getting in some of the time I'd say it is on the server end. Personally I hope that some whispered-about technical issues may be resolved. Nothing to report from the mod side but we're patiently working with this...

Java upgrade necessary
Chat has received a software upgrade and it is now necessary to upgrade to the latest version of Java (See! Youse guyz were on to something!) Please refer to: http://www.airforums.com/forum...now-27728.html
The server is still being pesky, so other problems may be observed. But do the Java upgrade and let us know how its going.
