We have the same windows in our 23D. I wondered the same thing, why. We added a separate roller shade for the lower window. Click image for larger version

Well, Airstreams can be quite flashy sometimes.

Key follow on questions:

1. Who would ever admit to making this mistake.

2. What nickname has the design team applied to the guy who signed off on this?

This situation is an absolute riot to look at and think about.

I put reflective film in the lower window. If the neighbors are nosey and see the upper half of me standing in my Airstream, good for them....they have something to talk about

I can imagine a design mandate from the boss. Small window must be installed in pairs.

It looks like the toilet lid would cover most of the moon hole in the up position, so it is indeed a brilliant design. And the added light illuminates the LZ, thus improving your aim.
Kudos, Airstream!

You do realize that if the lid is in the upper position, and it blocks most of the light, it counters your observation that it illuminates the LZ. Unless of course you aim & fire with the lid closed.

Sand-blasting is good

I took the entrance door window and the bathroom window from our '87 Excella to a local sandblaster. Fifty dollars produced an elegant solution which disposed of two awkward blinds. The door blind would stick to the glass with condensation, so we couldn't roll it up until it had dried. It attracted dirt and mould. The bathroom slatted blind was a nuisance to clean and to raise and lower. Sandblasting the glass produces a completely opaque but translucent finish. No curtains or blinds are required.
Nick.

Congratulations all... your comments on this wacky design "feature" have actually catapulted this thread into the weekly email Airforums Newsletter!
Well done!

Be cool if the toilet was facing the other way.

Of course there are a variety of ways to fix this mere manifestation of the real problem.

The larger picture, the point, the real problem is that you should have to fix this problem at all.

Or, to state the obvious, putting a window in the bathroom in this location is boneheaded. The very fact that airstream would choose to design and install a window in this location calls into question their sanity and their common sense. Once you call into question common sense, It leads to a host of other questions and doubt in the ability of any company, airstream in this case, to have common sense in designing anything.

That is the point.
As a female owner of an older 22’ double axle I do not think this is a design mistake at all! Do not think it needs to be fixed! Wish my trailer had those windows in the bathroom! A bathroom in a trailer with little to no day light always feels like a dark damp place no matter what the weather outside. Little to no natural light makes it impossible to apply make up etc in a bathroom.

It is only an issue for those who regularly camp in crowed campgrounds and insist on standing up and are not concerned with cleaning up or having someone else clean up their missed shots. if someone insists on standing they simple needed to take 3 seconds to pull the blind down.

If someone is to lazy to pull the blind they can do as they would probably do at their home if a bathroom window is visible to neighbours. Simple put a bit of film on the window to distort the clarity.

Funny

This is the funniest thread ever!! Lots of laughs. I think the window is for daylight...our 19’ fc has one but it doesn’t open which would be great for air, humidity etc. happy for the light in day, pull shade at night, amused when I forget. If that’s what folks wanna see?
Great laugh.
And yes, I doubt an interior designer has ever camped!!

I have the FC20. They have blinds that cover the windows, but I put Deco film over mine. The newer one’s window actually opens I think. Sorry pic is sideways. Never can figure out how to fix that.

True enough, but presumably most of them have used a toilet.

Sitting down

I learned fairing early on that peeing while standing up in an RV, while quite manly, causes endless splatter all over. The walls, toilet, floor - everywhere. So, while this window may offend the splatterers, just turn around, sit down and the issue disappears. Be clean.
