Broke Down on the Road in Sturgis SD

My Brother is on a trip Sturgis SD and Broke Down on the Road in his 1982 Air Stream, Powered by a 6 cylinder Turbo Isuzu 353 Diesel with a Chevy Turbo 350 Transition. He is hearing a lot of noise at an idle, but none under power. He has found the Flex plat is loose and can be moved over an 1” back and forth.

My request is, does any one have a Parts Break Down or an Illustration of that area between the engine and trany. We need to learn more as to what is going wrong in there and the part numbers of the “adapter” and “flex plate” so we can find the correct replacement part the first time. Thanks to all that may help us in our time of need!

Hi rkiles--I had a flex plate bolt drop out on a 1980's vintage Chevy van with the same transmission. The bolt made a lot of noise bouncing around in there. If I remember correctly there is a cover plate on the bottom which is easily removed, and when I removed it, the bolt dropped out. This gives you enough room to get in there with a wrench (open or box end) to replace the dropped out bolt (cause of the noise), and tighten up the rest. Didn't need any new parts. Good luck, and tell your brother to have a good time in Sturgis.--Frank S

We hope by now that, with Frank's idea, your brother's rig is repaired and he's on his way to a great Sturgis rally. We've been to Sturgis once, when visiting the Black Hills, just before their Corvette Rally. Theh town was a filled up popping place then; can't imagine what it's like for the big one! Best wishes!~G
